“Foreign exchange trading. ” I replied to her, still worried that my stepmom might have hurt her feelings. I hate to admit that I meant it when I said I would turn my car back to give my stepmom a piece of my mind.

“Oh.” She trailed.

“What?” I left a small laugh. “Do you think I was doing illegal stuff?”

“No, I was just curious, I want to know what you did for a living since you said your father didn’t give you anything.”

“You look beautiful tonight.I have been meaning to tell you the whole night. I see you love the jewelry I got you. I should get you more gifts.

“That’s a pity, I planned on divorcing you so I could get the boat tail as an alimony.” The smile on my face fell into a thick frown and she looked at me. “That was a joke.” She let out a small laugh.

I didn’t join her in laughing, the thought of her divorcing me bothered me. Why would she say that?

“I swear it was a joke, I have no reason to divorce you, I mean you are a good man, Ava loves you, my mom adores you..”
