I didn't sleep a wink last night. What did they mean by Damian and I getting married? Was it all a ploy to make us befriend each other?
I remember how the remaining part of the meeting went. Damian left briskly. I almost did, but had to respect both fathers —even though I wanted nothing to be with them.
“Are you kidding me now, Dad?! Her?” Damian shook his head and walked away.
His dad chuckled rather at his retreating figure “He knows I wouldn't joke with something this delicate. Not to worry dear, he will do my bidding,”
Do his bidding?
It got me confused. What is going on?? I looked at my Dad for help but he kept smiling sheepishly.
“Do take care of yourself, darling” Mr Delance smiled at me and left
What? What just happened?
“Let me call your sister, we should get going” my Dad said, still grinning from ear to ear
I stopped him from moving “Dad! What is going on? What was that supposed to mean?!” I stamped my feet at him
“Pumpkin,” Dad grinned, holding my shoulders tenderly “Mr Delance and I, want you and Damian to get married soon,”
My head spinned, my eyesight going foggy. A knock interrupted the trail of my thoughts. It was Linda, and she came with breakfast.
“Good morning, Sweetheart,” she greeted.
“Good morning, Linda,” I grumbled, turning the other side of my bed.
I felt my bed dip. Linda came to sit beside me. She touched my forehead gently, “are you okay? You sound so Moody,”
“Its nothing, just school stuff,” I lied
“Oh it's there a way that I can help?” nanny Linda ask worriedly
My heart went out to her. She is like the mother I never knew. I quickly hugged her and tried to cry in her arms. The tears slipped anyways, as I remembered what happened after Dad made the big announcement to me.
“Is this some sort of Joke?” I yelled at him
“Nope, it is not!” he answered with a crooked smile
“I will not get married to that fellow! I will choose who I get married to,” I told him angrily
“Stop getting worked up over it. We decided that when you were a baby, you had always been betrothed to Damian,” my Dad said, still smiling. I felt like slapping the smile off his face
“I have a boyfriend who I am in love with!” I protested
Dad shook his head “stop acting ungrateful, many girls would do anything to be in your position,”
“Well, you should know by now that I am not many girls. Why me? What about Steph?” I almost yelled
“Oh, Steph. I have her sorted out- she is engaged to a Prince,” he answered, grabbing my arm and pulling me from the scene- for we were already drawing attention with our heated argument.
Dad and I had never had never yelled at each other before- and a part of me felt guilty for that. But the other part felt he deserved every hostility that came from me. I mean, why would he decide my future without my consent?
Dad and I didn't talk with each other during the drive home. Stephanie, with the help of her friends, was brought to the car drunk.
She kept mummering profanities in the car, but Dad seemed to be unperturbed or ashamed of her.
I looked out the window, crying silently.
“Talk to me,” Nanny Linda’s voice brought me to reality.
As I opened my mouth to tell her, Dad walked in. “Good morning, sir” Nanny Linda greeted, gently standing up from my bed.
“Good morning,” He replied, sipping a cup of coffee. “Linda, I need you to take my dirty clothes to the laundry”
“Okay, sir” she nodded, kissing my forehead as she excused herself from the room
Dad smiled mischievously, “Good morning, Pumpkin. Do get dressed— i’ll be taking you and Steph to school this morning,”
“No!” I grunted, almost throwing my pillow at him
Dad laughed heartily and closed the door. “Argggggghhhhhhh” I groaned loudly into my pillow.
“Do have a lovely day, Pumpkins” Dad said as he dropped Steph and I at school. We didn't reply him, and in no time, we heard the loud blast of Dad’s car
“I love you, my Pumpkins!” This time he said it so loudly that tens of students at the entrance chuckled loudly.
Oh, no. Red color rose to my cheeks. I turned to look at Stephanie, she was embarrassed as well.
“I love you both my Pumpkins; Sarah and Stephanie Wright!” he yelled even loudly. Oh heavens, did he have to mention our names!
I felt like the earth should open to swallow me up. Daddy can be so dramatic. My heart softened a bit.
“We love you too,” Steph and I said.
“Better,” he grinned mischievously, making everyone laugh. I ran away as Steph went to meet her friends. So embarrassing.
I got to class and met Zara there. I wonder If I can ever beat her to it. She comes too early to school
"Hello Sarah Wright,” she teased as I sat next to her.
"Hello,” I replied with an eye roll and she laughed.
"I have been waiting all day for you, Babe. Or dad had to get your attention?” she said mischievously
Obviously, she saw or heard about my Dad’s display of affection. News in my school travels too fast.
“Whatever,” I pouted
“So tell me, how was the party?” she nudged at me
“It was good,” I answered dryly.
“Did anything spicy happen yesterday?” She asked excitedly
“No, nothing” I lied as a teacher walked into the class.

“Looks like Daddy is super loving today,” Zara said suddenly as we both walked to the school car park. School was closed.
“What?” I looked up only to find my Dad leaning on my car. Where’s Idris? Doesn’t Dad have a company to run?
"Wow! I must admit Sarah; this father of yours is so handsome and hot" Zara said, and I gave her a hard glare.
“Oops, sorry,” she giggled and ran off to meet her driver. I twirled some strands of my hair as I walked to meet my Dad.
"Hello, Dad" I greeted, entering the car. I missed Idris already.
“How was school today?” he asked
“It was good, and work?” I answered, buckling my seat belt.
“Good.” He cleared his throat as he drove out of the school gate, “I came because I wanted us to have a Dad and daughter talk, it's the reason I sent Eric to pick Stephanie on time. She is meeting the Prince as we speak…”
“Oh,” I said simply, staring out the window. I wished Dad could just leave me alone.
“Yes, it's about you and Damian. We want you both to get married in one week,” he said, dropping a bombshell.
“No way,” I yelled angrily, “that is bullsh!t. Even if that happens in this 30th century of young teenagers getting married. I won't! I believe in love, and would marry for love!”Dad chuckled devilishly on the wheels as he loosen his neck collar with his left hand. He stamped his feet on the accelerator and drove madly, barely avoiding the cars on the road. “Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh,” a scream escaped my mouth. “Do you want to kill us, daddy?” I screamed louder“You think I just want to give my daughters out in marriage?” He said over the rear mirror “You must see me as a bad father, don't you? Do you think I am happy about this??!” He yelled and drove like a lunatic. Other cars, trees, traffic lights, had become blurry. The wind was choking me.I feared for our lives. “Please, Daddy. Please stop, okay I will do as you want,” as soon as the words left my mouth, the car stopped. Dad leaned over the wheel, “We have gone bank—rupt, Pum— p—kin,” he said with raking shoulders as a loud sob s
“Look Steph, it's not what you think. Dad made the marriage arrangements, Honestly I didn’t ask for it.” I said, aware that I was shoving my Dad under the Bus. I couldn't bear to face Steph’s wrath, she is my twin and I love her more.“Really?” she sneered, as though I was some pest beneath her. I swallowed hardly “If that is true, why didn't you say anything to me? You know how much I love Damian,”‘Love? No Steph, you are obsessed with Damian. You literally have his pictures all over your room,’ I almost said but bit back the words. “I am sorry that you are just getting to know,” I apologized rather “Sorry won't excuse this betrayal!” she yelled, tugging at her hair frantically. Betrayal? I didn’t ask for either for this?!!“Fine!” she grabbed my arms roughly “We must come to an agreement; you will end up with Prince Kareem, and I, with Damian Delance,”“What?” My eyes widened. It wasn't enough that I had to have sleepless night with migraines over the sudden tragedy of my life, an
It was Damian. The human I am to get married to in a few days. What? What is he doing here? Shouldn’t he be at a concert or something?I got more jittery than I was.“Yeah, if it’s no other than the boy who gets to marry her,” the boy sneered at Damian and his protocols.Damian balled his fist, “Touch her one more time and I will make sure that you rot in prison for a long time,” he threatened. By now, all his minions had deserted him. They stood afar off, telling him to let me go.He hesitatingly released me from his grip “Whatever, Mr singer. Just know that this isn’t over yet, and I rule this school now,” he said, nudging Damian as he walked past. Damian grabbed him by the shoulders and flung him to the floor. It happened so fast that my eyes widened. Woah!“Rule the school for all I care, but you will stay away from this girl. My girl,” Damian thundered, before walking to drag me off. What just happened ? I stared at his profile as we walked past the school corridors into an empty
What is Coleman doing? Is he really doing this? “If I don’t have you, nobody else will.” He tried kissing me again but I turned my face away, struggling to get him off me.Goosebumps had washed over me and I smelt danger. His home was in a distant estate and no one was home.“Stop it!” I screamed “Let go of me, Coleman! Don’t do this!" I cried pushing him off me, but he weighed me down and went for my lips. This time he caught it and pushed his tongue in my mouth.Oh, God! This is not happening to me!!!I tried to move away, but he wouldn't let go. He kissed me roughly, and then his hands went under my skirt.I yelped. Jilted. And tried escaping him but Coleman wasn’t thinking. He wasn’t thinking about me or the consequences that could come from this.He didn’t think about my reputation or his. He wanted to have his way. And his way, he will get.I tried pushing him again, but he pinned both of my hands to the bed and used his left hand to unbutton his shirt. He flung it where his tro
We used one of Dad’s cars, and Mr Idris drove us straight to the venue. "Woah! Are you kidding me? Is this a carnival or what?" "Whoosh! This was why I wanted us to come on time. Now, the whole place is filled up already," Zara grumbled as Idris found a place to park. "Geez! This place is too rowdy. I don't like crowds." I protested. “Durrh, you are his fiancee. You should learn to getting used to the crowds,” Zara snapped at me. Zara held my hand as we maneuvered through the crowd, and I was amazed at how some girls were looking. Many wore customized shirts with Damian’s name and pictures. Eyeglasses, rings, necklaces, stickers, and even hairbands—all with his name printed on them. Oh heavens! Girls are crazy over my husband-to-be? Zara led me to a spot by the entrance where customized items were sold. She bought a bangle and two light stickers with Damian’s name on them. Wearing the bangle on her wrist, she handed one of the stickers to me. "Huh? What are you doing?” I proteste
The day Zara and I attended the concert, was the day Dad told me of a meeting with the Delances. that we would be having Dinner with the Delances. In his words, “You will be having dinner with your in-laws in wo days time.. It will be an opportunity to know all the family,,” So here I was with Dad, dressed in a shimmering blue gown and walking through the door with a man called “butler,”. We were at the Delances Mansion. Butler led us into a little hall, when I barely heard my name and was enveloped in a hug. “Sarah!" Delance's mother said. I inhaled her expensive perfume, which was soothing and I suddenly missed having a mother. "Hello, ma'am" I said nervously when she released me from her hold. Then I saw the man beside her. Mr Delance. My amazinggg father in law. Arghh. “Hello darling,” his eyes lit up with joy as he pulled me in for a hug. I didn’t know when I relaxed in his hold. What is wrong with me? I was supposed to be mean to him because of what he did by making that
I lifted my eyes to look at Damian, his face was cold and hard but I couldn’t help but admire his sculpted jaw, soft-looking lips and Adam apple. His sapphire eyes have now become my favorite thing. Indeed, I now understand why all girls are crazy over him. Woah! This is the man I will be getting married to. Fate is mysterious.Just then his eyes caught mine. Oh, God! I think I just stopped breathing. I quickly looked away and then, I heard him scoff.“No!” Damian grumbled, burying his face in his food.“Alright,” Mrs Delance took her attention from him, “let’s have the wedding on the 9th, since it’s Sunday and we should take their needs into consideration,” she beamed. Our fathers simply nodded “that will be perfect,”“So honey” Mr Delance said to his wife "I trust you will be taking care of the decorations and all Sarah will be needing for the wedding?"Oh, God! Do they really have to talk further? “Of course, you know I wouldn't dally in such important issues,”Mrs Delance replied
“Yaay! I am so glad that you’ll be sleeping over,” Mrs Delance squealed “it feels like I now have my own daughter,”“Honey, be calm,” Mr Delance chuckled, coming to hold his wife from me. “Let’s leave the both of them. They wouldn’t know each other if we were always in their faces.”Damian simply brought his phone from his pockets and started typing furiously.“Or better still, why don’t you show her the room beside yours. That’s where she will be spending the night,” Mr Delance said “Wonderful! Hurry up, boy” Mrs Delance said excitedly, making me wonder why she wants her son and I to get married. Did I perhaps do something in my other life that is making Mr and Mrs Delance love me?Damian simply groaned and stood up. He walked off without saying anything, “Follow him,” Mrs Delance whispered. Emily nodded quickly too.As I turned to follow him, poor, typical me tripped over the edge of the rug and dives forward in a way that may be mistaken as a Superman act. One arm outstretched in f
