CHAPTER 62: THE MASK IS OFF

KATIE’S POV

I glanced down and saw the tray on the floor. Glass cups shattered to pieces beside it, and their contents spilled. However, that disaster was nothing compared to the one in my heart. This was a foreign feeling to me, more painful than being sold away by my stepmother, more painful than being falsely accused of murder.

I was vaguely aware of the eyes that were staring at me and the whispers that filled the room. They must be whispering about me, too. But none of that registered in my brain; all my attention was on the screen, and I watched Blaze tell our story the other way around.

You beast, I thought, shaking with anger. Now, I was well and genuinely unredeemable. Worse than that was the fact that I was helpless in this situation. Not a say in the whole matter, not a way to defend myself. I never felt as powerless as I did at that moment.
