Chapter fifty

Charlie's POV

Going back to California was supposed to be simple. Pack up our things, ship it to Jacksonville, and go home. But I never anticipated that David would come with us, I really hope this doesn't turn into a cluster fuck and we can all get along.

I have no idea what was going on between us, our phone conversation in the text that followed afterwards gave me more questions than answers. I was more confused than I've ever felt in my entire life. 

I close my eyes and pinch the top of my nose as regret weighs me down, I really did plan to tell the truth one day but I always pictured it happening on my terms not because of a funeral. 

I'm not ready or prepared to spend this much time with him.

sitting on the porch waiting for David to pick us up I can see my hot breath fill the freezing air as I stare out onto the road, waiting for any sign of his car.

Maybe he changed his mind, maybe he's not coming today, possibly luck will
