"Scarlett, help! Save me l've been molested at the club!"
The desperate and helpless sound of her best friend's voice was the only thing Scarlett Barnes's though of the moment she rushed over to the clubhouse."Room 304!"Scarlett looked up at the number plate on the door of the private room. It was the same room number that her best friend, Courtney Seymour, had texted her.Without a second thought, she barged through the door to save her friend.
When the door swung open under her hand, she was greeted by the darkness within. Suddenly, a strong hand clasped around her wrist and dragged her into the dark room, followed by a loud thud as the door slammed shut."Hey—who are you, and what do you want?!" Scarlett shrieked, her eyes darting around wildly as she tried to make out her surroundings.More confusion aroused in her, as the only thing she could make out of the room was thick darkness. The windows were shut tight giving no room for a single ray of light."Settle down, and I'll treat you well." A man's deep and husky voice spoke close to her ear.The next second, Scarlett was tenaciously tossed onto the couch, and before she could scurry to her feet, a strong and muscular body pinned her down. She let out a stifled cry when a pair of lips that tasted like lemon forcefully captured hers. The man on top of her felt burning hot to the touch. A sense of hopelessness brought tears to her eyes as she tried to struggle against the man, but in the end, she was too weak to struggle and could do nothing but endure his ferocity. An hour later, Scarlett painfully staggered out of the room, looking weary. She had only just been through what seemed like a nightmare, but that didn't distract her from worrying about her best friend's safety. She was just about to call Courtney's number when she saw a group of men and women afar off, walking out the side door. Under the lights, she instantly recognized the two of the women in the group. One happened to be Courtney, her best friend who had cried for help on the phone earlier, and the other was the adoptive Barnes daughter, Tiana Barnes. The two girls walked side by side with their arms linked, as if they were the closest of friends.Shock and rage colored Scarlett's features when she saw them. "Stop right there, Courtney!" she called out loudly over the distance as her fists clenched tightly at her sides.Upon hearing this, Courtney and Tiana swiveled around to face her. Scarlett glowered at them, burning red as she demanded of Courtney, "Why would you lie to me?!"Courtney smirked instead. "It's not my fault that you're always so susceptible, Scarlett.""Did you have a good time with that gigolo back there?" Tiana asked in a sing-song voice, smiling wickedly. It was only then that Scarlett realized that both of them had set her up. The chastity she had held dear for the past nineteen years was now sacrificed for their horrendous glee.Presently, Scarlett's eyes were frosty as she seethed, "Did you actually think I was your friend, Scarlett? I've been living in your shadow ever since we met! I hate you, and I want nothing more than to ruin that face of yours!"Tiana, on the other hand, swiftly interjected by mocking, "I have the proof I need to show Dad that you've been pimping yourself for money at the club. It won't be long until you're thrown out of the house!""You two—" Scarlett was so furious that she swayed. Her body was in tatters after the ordeal she had been through, and the collective weight of her friend's betrayal and her sister's cruelty nearly knocked her down."Let's go, Courtney! We don't want to be seen with trash, do we?" With her arm looped through Courtney's, Tiana led her toward the sports car she had parked by the curb.A week later, at the Barnes Residence, the raging voice of Mr Barnes filled the entire air that the whole place seen to tremble."To satisfy your inordinate lust, you turned yourself into a Sl*t! Or was it just because I cancelled your travelling abroad? How can I, Draco Barnes, be capable of having such a shameless daughter like you?"
"Dad, I didn't—""You didn't? But you did, Scarlett! How could you go to such shameless lengths? I loved you as a father should, whstelse didn't I give to you. I cant believe you started sleeping around."I hope you haven't brought any disease back to this house. Who knows what my daughter and I could have caught from you," the woman who was dressed in jewels and fine clothes sneered from where she sat on the couch."Dad, I didn't do anything...I—" Scarlett tried to explain herself. However, Draco did not want to hear another word from her. He glowered at her maliciously as he snapped, "Still lying to me, I see. Get out of this home right now! I will not stand to have you under my roof. No daughter of mine could be so shameless. From now on, you are not my child!"Meanwhile, on the staircase landing, Tiana watched this scene play out as she leaned against the banister with her chin propped on her hand. Everything was going exactly the way she had planned. In a matter of minutes, Scarlett was going to be cast out of the house and wander around like some pathetic stray mutt.Downstairs in the living room, Scarlett fell silent when she saw the thunderous and disappointed look on her father's face. She wordlessly rose from her seat and walked up the stairs to pack up her things. She had only just rounded the landing when Tiana blocked her. With her arms crossed haughtily in front of her chest, the younger girl sneered, "Get out of here! Don't linger around like an eyesore. This house will never have a place for you ever again!"Scarlett clenched her fists as she glowered at Tiana's pleased expression.Seeing the hatred and anger in Scarlett's eyes, Tiana leaned forward. "What, do you want to slap me or something?" She turned her cheek toward the fuming girl and said smugly, "Go right ahead, then!"Without holding back, Scarlett brought her hand down across Tiana's face, resulting in a hard slap."Ah!" Tiana let out a shrill cry. "Mom!" She howled as she bolted down the stairs.Charlotte Barnes quickly pulled her daughter into her arms and cried up the stairwell, "How dare you strike my daughter, Scarlett! What the hell are you playing at?!"Draco glanced at the red imprints on Tiana's cheek, and he had never been more disappointed in his life. When did my oldest daughter become so infuriatingly rebellious?"Dad, Scarlett, hurt me..." Tiana sobbed as she burrowed into her father's arms, taking in exaggerated deep breaths like she was in great pain."Get out of here, Scarlett!" Draco roared up the stairs.Having packed up her things, Scarlett grabbed her luggages and went down the stairs. Her heart grew stone-cold when she saw how her own father was holding Tiana in his arms like she was something precious."What a fake soul! She's the Devil's incarnate." Scarlett had wanted to say it loud, but withheld her self.. She had just about enough already.Scarlett knew then that she indeed had no place in his heart. Draco had only heard Tiana's side of the story instead of asking Scarlett about the awful incident she had endured last night.Ever since her mother had passed, she had spent her years in this home living like an outsider, for her father had brought home his mistress and his illegitimate daughter to form a new family.I will never come back to this place ever again.
Inside the house, Tiana watched as Scarlett dragged her suitcase out the front door, and a wicked smile curled on her lips. I finally got rid of that useless eyesore! She added in triumphAs if the sky was against Scarlett, it drenched her cloth together with the luggage she pulled along."Pack your things, and leave. We do not want someone like you amongst us!" Those were the words Draco hurled at his daughter, before giving orders to shoo her away.Scarlett stood on the balcony of her small apartment, her twenty four weeks belly protruding from her fitted top. The cool evening breeze blew across her exposed shoulders, sending shivers down her spine. She closed her eyes, relishing in the serenity of the moment as she leaned against the railing. She sighed heavily as she gazed at the distance, she could see families retiring into their home for the night and then her Emerald green eye gleamed visualizing how happy she would have been with her dad.Nostalgia set in and she practically remembered the day she was chased out of the house by her once-loving father. Her step sister had set her up and the same person had stolen the affection of her dad.Scarlett had made one mistake, but no one was available to plead on her behalf that her presence in the household remains. The pain of being dragged out of her father's house came running in and it warranted a tear to fall from her cheeks. She sniffed her nose, looked into the heavens and
Two years passed…Scarlett bolted upright in bed gasping for breath, she couldn't have a clear vision of her nightmare, but all the physical effects of the dream reflected on her.Her skin was sticky with sweat, her heart was pounding hard against her chest, and the palpable tension between her thighs. The confused Scarlett merely took time to notice the conspicuous changes but a part of her yet felt at peace. Her eyes flickered in a short while, as she recalled receiving a mail in the night but was too drowsy to check."Oh my God! I must have forgotten!" She dashed towards her laptop, and checked her most current mail, only to realize the fast rate at which her heart resumed beating. The mail had stated posting her for a job at Lucas Maxwell's home, opening her browser for further investigation, she realized her soon-to-be boss was the CEO of Leonard, a multi-billion dollar, biotech company. The article painted him to be a badass, but also a genius who uses his pain to bring his comp
Scarlett's mouth dropped, and her eyes widened. She needed no one to tell her, her eyes were reddened, and her tear watered. She felt as though her feet froze and she was struck right in the chest with a dagger."Lucas!" Daphne admonished."I said I do not want her, and that's final!" Lucas blurted and turned towards the door for an exit with both hands In his pocket.Followed by a sigh, Daphne shot Scarlett an apologetic look. "Please Scarlett, I'll be back."Right there in the study, Scarlett was still frozen, she felt as though life had been taken out of her. Above all her rejections, she could tell this is the first time she felt lifeless after being rejected.Instantly, Scarlett prayed the ground splits and she falls into it. She had her fist tightened as she thought. The jerk didn't bother taking a second glance at her, before the dismissal.Who the hell did he think he was? She howled inwardly. From the study room where she was, she could hear the muffling sound of Lucas's argu
THE NEXT DAY…Scarlett was hurt to her bones, but there was nothing anyone could do about those words.Every single moment, she tried to forget it, but the words kept returning.Lucas had treated her like she was never a human, and had no emotions. However, in the meantime, she hoped to bear with it by avoiding Lucas in her days of working for the Maxwells.Scarlett had always loved children, and the day she met with the twins, something within her had bonded with them like they were hers."That's the only reason I'm accepting this job!" She angrily arranged her clothes into her box.Yet, she couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and nervousness. She had always been independent and had never lived with anyone since the day she was chased out.In a short while, Scarlett was done packing, she struggled with the two big bags as she went towards the park for a cab."You must be strong." Scarlett told herself as they drove to Maxwell's spacious suburban home, Scarlett couldn't help
The next morning came in a blink of an eye. Scarlett didn't want to bump into Lucas, and at the same time, she wanted to go for the kids as early as possible. However, she remembered his cruel words and resolved to stay back for a while. At 7:00 am, Daphne knocked on her door and said. "You can come out now Scarlett, he just left."Scarlette's cheeks flushed red as she never expected Daphne to have easily read through her mind.As quick as she could, she hurried over to the kids' room and got them prepared for school as fast as she could. She ensured she prepared their meals according to their favorites as directed by Daphne. In a short while, the kids were off to school. Scarlett then returned to the kitchen to have her breakfast after some encouraging words from Daphne.Daphne soon requested that she headed back to her room to get some work done. It was still a wonder that she did not work in Lucas's company. She had mentioned one time that she did not want her personal life and fin
Lucas' eyes fell to the shattered glass on the floor, and his heart broke into a thousand pieces. That was his most cherished work of art, not because he had spent a fortune to have a glass painting of a nude woman, but because it was his wife.It stood at the end of the corridor, so he would look at it before he retired for the night, and first thing in the morning when he stepped out of his room to begin his busy day.His wife cherished the painting just the same way he did. It was the only thing that still reminded him of her, and what she looked like.At first, he had shot Scarlett a ferocious look, but as he drew closer to the shattered painting, his eyes softened.Scarlett saw something glint in his eyes, something that looked like a tear, as he crumpled to the ground and rummaged through the shattered glass as though he had suddenly run mad.She felt sorry for him immediately as he knelt there. Lucas was a well-muscled large man, and seeing him this way, she felt entirely remors
Lucas stared at Scarlett and the kids for a long five minutes, and he could barely have words to describe how peaceful they looked in their sleep. He had been worried about his kids the whole night. He knew how much they were scared of the thunderstorm, and Daphne could barely keep her eyes open at the first drop of rain. For the first time since she started work, he was grateful that she was there, and the children felt so at peace with her. He watched them snuggle up to her, and it warmed his heart. When Scarlett looked up at him, he quickly looked away, but it was already too late to feign anger. She sat up with a start, and it almost made him chuckle. She was so intimidated by him, and he liked it so much. He did not like her one bit and did not want her to feel relaxed around him."I thought I said no contact with my kids," he said to her in an upset, but somewhat calm tone.Maybe if you stayed at home with them last night, they would not have to be curled up in my bed.Scarlett s
Scarlett woke up with a start immediately after her alarm went off, put a shirt over her head, and rushed downstairs. She would not want to attract any mundane talk from Lucas.Ever since Daphne left, he complained about everything she did, and how she could barely get a simple job done. She moved about with so much trepidation that made her bump into things, and sometimes, break things as she went."Don't you have any shame?" He would bark at her. She had once thought of leaving the job. She would be better off as a barista in a peaceful coffee shop than in a luxurious home, with good pay but a grumpy boss. But whenever she looked at the kids, and how much they warmed up to her, she would always have a change of mind. She loved them like her own and she would want them to remain in her care. Days had passed and they were only getting fond of her with each passing day.Scarlett flipped the eggs in the pan carefully to avoid a break. It was the way Lucas loved his breakfast. The idea o
