Allison's POV I nodded at Dante's words. His words evoked a lot of memories. There was a time right before the attacks on Dante's pack began when Madison and I were having breakfast together. I had concentrated on my food and Madison had been chattering about the kinds of clothes she liked, her favorite colors, and a lot of things I was barely paying attention to. Then she had stopped abruptly and asked, "What flower do you like most? I absolutely love roses- red ones in particular." she had added after I didn't respond to her question. Her hands had unconsciously touched the sleeve of the flower-patterned blouse she was wearing. I had made an impatient gesture. "I do not like flowers at all," I had said. "Flowers are childish and I definitely wouldn't waste a thought on them." I chuckled sadly at the memory. Perhaps the memory of that day had been floating around in my subconscious. That was why I had gotten the exact flowers she liked. Dante heard me chuckle. I noticed the
Allison's POV I looked from Dante at Maddox and back again, hardly able to believe the evidence of my ears. My mind whirled as I fought to grasp the implications of what I had just heard. I wondered how the hell Darius could be in the same house with me without my knowledge. Had he been here for hours? days? Weeks? What room had he been staying in and why had I not run into him? Then I considered Maddox's manner. He was obviously being secretive about the whole issue and that made me very suspicious. To make it worse, he had said Darius's body had been contaminated with silver! Maddox would not have been waiting for Dante if Darius's condition was not critical. Dante had a worried frown on his face and seemed at a loss for words at the moment, so I turned to Maddox. I was about to speak when Dante broke in. "Are you quite sure of what you are say-" Maddox cut in. "I am. I would not have bothered you about it if I wasn't very sure." Maddox shifted his weight from one foot to
Dante's POV Repeatedly, I ran my fingers through my hair as my mind darted like a trapped animal in a dozen different directions. I stared at Allison whose face was now as still and as immobile as a statue. She looked at me the way she had done when she first came here- suspiciously and distrustfully. Her earlier relaxed expression had disappeared the way a fist does when the palm opens. I fought with myself, forcing myself to assume an unreadable expression at least. Allison could not know of the turmoil I was going through inside. I surveyed the area, staring at Lucius's departing figure. At the moment I wished I was him and did not have to face Allison's fury. I would not mind much if I had the explanations she wanted. But I had nothing at the moment and that pissed me off. To buy time, I jerked my chin in the direction of the house. "Let us go in," I said quietly. She bared her teeth and growled. A muscle jumped in her jaw. "You can say whatever it is you have to say ri
Allison's POV It had been four hellish days- four days of constantly worrying about Darius. I could not remember being this disturbed in a long while except perhaps for the time Dante had gone to fight those rogues. But then I knew the worst within a few hours. This, however, was torture. To see my only living relative lying helpless was more than my nerves could stand. And to think it was silver that caused this damage! As yet, I had not gotten a satisfactory answer as to how Darius got that much silver into his system. I wrinkled my nose at the too-sterile smell of the pack clinic. I had never liked being in clinics or places where sick people were kept. The atmosphere did not agree with me somehow. I guessed it was because it sort of reminded me of the frailty of life. Yet, I had barely left the clinic in four days. I ran my fingers through my hair, held it to my face, and grimaced. My hair was greasy and badly needed a wash, but at this time, I had other priorities. Sitti
Allison's POV The minute I caught sight of Dante, I flushed, embarrassed. I felt ashamed that he had been a witness to the whole sordid scene with my brother. Aria too was looking scandalized at all that Darius had said. It took all my willpower to keep my head up and stare at Dante. He did not look at me, however. His gaze was focused on Darius and the anger in his eyes was terrible to see. Darius must also have come to the same conclusion as I did, that this spelt trouble for him because he stiffened and cringed. Dante continued moving forward. I reached out and tried to grab his arm but I touched only air. "Dante. . .," I murmured. He gave no indication that he heard me. He headed straight for Darius and stopped right in front of his bed. Darius would get a tongue-lashing- that was for sure, but I was not expecting what Dante did next. Quick as a flash, Dante's hand grabbed Darius by the front of his shirt. His hands inched upward, grabbed his throat, and squeezed. My eyes
Alison's POV It was early in the morning. The sun was not yet fully up, yet a fine sheen of sweat covered the guards and I. We had been running laps around the training ground for half an hour. I kept going, focusing on keeping my breathing even. One by one, the guards stopped running, tired out. I was the only one left. When I saw they had all stopped, I stopped running. Slowly, I walked to a tree and leaned against it, breathing heavily. The guards and warriors looked at me with admiration. Pleased with myself, I grinned. There was a stitch in my side and my muscles trembled with fatigue, but I stood with my head held high. Aria, grinning from ear to ear waved at me as she watched from a considerable distance. Lucius stepped forward. "Alright, everyone. Take five." With his hands on his hips, he surveyed the men who stood in a loose circle. "I can't believe the bunch of you got licked by the Luna. . . again." There was a chorus of laughter. "Thank the goddess she is on our s
Dante's POV I looked around and had to admit that the dinner Allison had planned was a huge success. I was just getting to know that there were depths to my mate that I had not explored yet. To look at her, one would have thought that what she was only good at was fighting and training. Now, I was pleasantly surprised that she had the ability to run my home. As we had resumed the ritual of once more eating at the dining table, I felt somehow lighter. Since Madison's death, no one had had meals here and I had my reservations when Allison had made the suggestion. But I was now glad I had listened to her. My men looked happier than I had seen them in weeks. The maids and the others too were relaxed. I was glad to see that things were gradually returning to normal. I looked fondly at Allison who was chattering away to Aria. Lucius raised his glass and raised his voice so he could be heard amongst the babble of other voices. "I'm drinking to the Alpha's health," he said. There wa
Allison's POV I came awake. Vaguely, I was aware that I was lying on something soft- most likely a bed but I had the sensation of movement. I felt weak and lethargic. All I wanted to do at the moment was to keep lying there and probably go to sleep. I had no idea how long I had been out, so I forced my eyes open. Huge grey eyes fringed with thick lashes were inches from my face. Startled, I screamed, then realized it was Dante who was looking down at me. Dante winced at the shrill sound. Then he leaned back, chuckling at my reaction. With my heart still thudding with residual fear, I laughed shakily and playfully slapped his arm. Placing my hand on my chest, I said, "You scared me, Dante. Why were you staring at me like that? That close, I thought you were a monster or something." I struggled to sit up as I took in a deep breath. "Were you planning to give me a panic attack or-" My words were cut off as my eyes widened in horror. Bile rushed to my throat as my mouth filled with
