9: Late night visitor, Wanna stay??

Dave Lin had probably worked overtime. This is evident from the time he was still in the office.

He took a quick glimpse at his golden wristwatch. It was 9:50 pm. Quite too late for his usual working schedule. But he seemed busy and occupied at the moment.

With the files filled up on his table and the computer on before him which he operated from time to time while going through files, he was certainly going through a case. Or rather the case at hand.

He took a while to surf a particular file that was bodied with words that only he understood. He seemed lost in it, lost into the words in it and the sense he tried to make out of it while linking ideas. He didn't seem to be in the mood for anything else.

His busy scenario was interrupted by a knock on the door.

He paused, looking up to the door." Who's there?"  He wondered who was still in the agency late at night.

"It's me...Lara" The familiar feminine voice came from the other side of the door as Dave Lin looked down on the papers on his table again

"Come in" He invited reluctantly as the door was slowly pushed open. Lara walked in with a cup of coffee.

Lara observed the busy man. it was no new scene. And she could tell he had not had anything to eat also.

"You should at least have this to work" Lara placed the coffee on the table. "I know you must have had nothing to eat this night"

He sighed still tied up with the files. "Thanks" He replied casually as she slowly took a seat opposite him.

Lara found a smile escape her lips as she watched him work. For a reason, she found him much handsome when he was working.  Perhaps it was her thinking.

Having liked him for a long now, Lara knew this feeling of what we considered a crush.

Perhaps it was love at first sight. He might not have recognized her but her theory was that she had met him when she had gone on a mission with her co-workers at a suicide scene.

At the moment he had come to take a look and on taking a glimpse on him, she had instantly fallen for him.

She hardly saw him but when she got the opportunity to do so, she was always honored even when knowing he might not even know him.

And on hearing the news that she was taking over the agency, she was rather overjoyed. She was indeed lucky to have a crush of her's working under the same roof as hers. Perhaps this was an opportunity given to her by the heavens to chase him. And she was going to seize this opportunity.

"So what do you plan on doing now that the Father is dead?" She asked.

Dave Lin sighed again. Recalling the fact that before they had gotten to the hospital the man had passed away, he was left with no other reasonable solutions. He wasn't even sure again on how to follow up the case.

"I don't know now" He replied pausing for a moment as he looked at the computer screen.

"Well, there seems to be another odd murder case last night. There isn't much evidence at the moment but I received a video clip taken by the CCTV of the incident" He handed him the flash drive.

Accepting it, Lin looked at her "This happened just last night?"

Lara nodded" We just got the information later this evening, and the bodies of these men were found at a lonely street side. I've told the police to gather as much information as they possibly can. we'll be receiving more details by tomorrow"

Dave Lin nodded "Okey. That's good. " He didn't hesitate much as he put the flash right in to access and play the video.

The clip wasn't clear but rather oddly blurry. It was night and the street lights were too dim to see through the people.

He could only see a figure of a girl being chased by some and then something odd happened.

Like it was paused and played again, the men were found lying on the floor already dead and the girl standing there.

Lin replayed this a couple of times but still the same. He was confused by this as he decided to have a closer look at this girl. Perhaps she had something to do with this murderer.

But sadly he couldn't see her. It was just too blurry. What a pity he didn't see her. But for a strange reason, he felt a bit familiar with this person but he couldn't say how.

"Did you get anything?" Lara asked.

He wasn't certain so speaking it wasn't an option. He shocked his head "No. Can't see clearly"

"Well don't worry, I'll look for something else. Maybe when they get more information tomorrow"

Lin nodded and looked at Lara. "And what about the body which was sent to the lab for examination? Still no information?'

"Well about that. We still haven't gotten anything specifically. But I went today for the results and was told it was not ready yet. so I guess I'll have to go back tomorrow"

"Okey then, " He said and continued observing the video " Aren't you going to go home?"

"No. I'm not in a hurry" She replied.

Dave Lin looked up at her. "Lara. You should go back. Don't wait for me, okay?"

He spoke with a tone of consideration that was bound to make anyone believe he cared dearly for them. And likewise, Lara was made to feel that way.

"Okey. I'll be off. But don't stay too late" She said as she got up and left with a smile on her lips.

Did he care for her? She was excited even if it was an assumption she made.

Without daring to think twice, Yang Sunni raised the mop stick above her head and quickly brought it down to hit the invader who was before the door with her eyes closed. But suddenly she found her hand stuck up.

Perhaps it was the stick that was stuck up, but no matter what she couldn't bring the mop stick down.

She struggled hard to bring down the mop stick but her efforts were all in vain. She struggled and struggled but to no avail. Then she decided to open up her eyes and take a look at who was stopping her from striking.

She slowly opened her eye looking up at the mop stick that was stuck up and could see a hand holding it up firmly.

Immediately, his eyes fell to the person possessing these hands as she was rather shocked at whom she saw.

"You?!" She snapped letting go of the mop stick.

Lucas dropped the mop stick to fall to the floor as he looked at Sunni who had her surprised gaze on him.

"What are you doing here this late at night? And how....did you get past the sitting room and to here??" She demanded.

He gave no reply but had his eyes on his. His deep eyes that could get one lost in them were no match for the ignorant Sunni who demanded a reply.

Sunni didn't find it normal! This guy had stalked her to the restaurant and now at home?! Who knows where else he would stalk her to? And worse still if he had any hidden agenda.

"So...answer up..how did you get through the entrance door?" She demanded an answer.

He was mute again as he looked back at the sitting room and her. He didn't seem to be ready to answer.

She was in big trouble now wondering the type of guy she had found all in the name of looking for a partner. She was doomed since now she feared she couldn't step out now!

"Okey," She said not minding his 'way' of getting in  "So tell me. Why are you here? Shouldn't you be at home?" She demanded.

He was mute again which got her worried. He probably wasn't dumb right? She had heard her talk before right? But why wasn't he saying anything now? This got Sunni even more worried.

"Why aren't you saying anything? What's wrong with you and why are you here? Don't you know it's a crime to sneak into someone's house this late at night?"

He was still mute which disturbed her a lot. What had she gotten herself into? what mess had she gotten entangled with?

"Okay. So tell me about your house. I'll send you home" She offered.

He hesitated a while but replied anyway " I don't have a home"

She blinked at him for a while digesting the reply he had given her. What was that? He didn't have a home? What then was he? where was this guy from??

Sunni couldn't make out the reaction she should give, panic? pity? but she managed to analyze the whole situation.

This guy was acting oddly Right from the moment they met he was not ordinary. And judging from his ignorance of certain things, lack of phone, or even the way he ate like a pauper when she had treated him to a meal, Sunni could now tell that this guy was an orphan with no home or family.

It was a funny analysis from Sunni but she believed it anyways. She tagged him a mentally challenged guy who didn't grow up with a family or home but rather grew up on the streets alone.

With this analysis, the soft-hearted Sunni quickly took pity on him. She now thought of a way to comfort him or perhaps help him.

"oh... That's....sad..." She said scathing her hair as she ran a hand through her brownish hair as she thought of a way to help out her partner. But she had no money herself, how then can she help.

"Well then. You should have told me earlier and not barge into my house this late-night, okay?".

He said nothing but stared at her.

The stare of this guy was starting to get to him. But she brushed the thoughts off and spoke up.

"I guess I'll have to help you find a house"

"Why?"

The question he asked triggered her. Why??? Shouldn't he be grateful?

But she decided not to react. He was mentally retarded after all.

"Well, you need a house to feel comfortable. you can't just sleep on the streets forever right?"

"But I don't want to find a house," He said.

"Huh?" Why? Then what do you wanna do?" She inquired.

"I want to live here"

The reply took Sunni unawares as she found her eyes widening in shock and her mouth almost dropping open.

What was this guy saying???
