After the kiss episode, Ruby made sure to avoid Cameron completely, even though it was almost close to impossible to do. She would always wake up extra early to cook for the kids, went back into her room until she was sure it was time for him to get ready for work, and then she would go out to get the kids ready for school, pack their lunch and sometimes take them to school.

She knew that once the kids were around, it would be easy to avoid him, because he couldn't do anything in their presence, and for those times she had to be with him when they were there, it was always super awkward.

Making sure to avoid his eyes wasn't as easy as she thought it would be, but she didn't care about that. Thankfully, it was always only for a few minutes before he went to work for breakfast, or at dinnertime.

If he missed dinner by coming home late, she would have put the kids to sleep and retire to her room.

This was the exact thing she was trying to run from when she left him that night in his o
