19. A Temporary Way Out

I stared at the ring that sat in my palm. It looked like silver but I knew it wasn’t. Otherwise, it would burn my palm and I would have been screaming att the moment. I could feel the magic buzzing within the metal. I picked it up between my forefinger and thumb and rolled it about. The metal glinted under the light. 

I contemplated whether I should wear it, whether it would actually tame the beast that only thought of claiming his mate. By the time I returned to my place, more like my room, inconspicuous and unnoticed like always, Whatever scraps and cuts I had received were nowhere to be found, of course, but I was still feeling on edge.
