51. Memory Flashes

Athena's POV

I recognized his face. I remembered his name. I could see flashes of fire and a woman attacking me, but that was all.

"Is anyone trying to kill me?" I panicked, taking his hands as though he had all the answers to my question.

"No one's trying to kill you. You're safe now," he answered.

"What about the baby? Our baby?" I asked, attempting to get up, but he held me still.

"The baby is fine and she's asleep. Tell me, what can you remember?"

"There was a woman. I saw her but I can't make out her face," I replied, staring vaguely at the carpets, forcing myself to remember everything that happened before the fire.

I rose my gaze at him,

"Why? you look worried? Do you know her?"

He gestured a no and stood up immediately.

"I'll be back. Stay with her," he ordered the nurse without giving me a second look.

I walked up to Cosmo's cot, and took her in my arms.

"Someone's trying to kill us, but the King and I wouldn't let them," I spoke with my child like she could understand me.
