The weight of worry and determination bore down on me as I set out to find Cedric. I knew that involving others could put them at risk. Cedric was desperate and dangerous, and I couldn’t afford to let him hurt anyone else. With a fierce resolve, I followed the faint traces of his scent, my senses heightened by adrenaline.

In preparation for my departure, it was of utmost importance to me that Mark was handling all matters on the home front. I couldn't afford to leave any loose ends untied, particularly considering the potential threat still posed by Matilda. With a heavy heart, but a steady voice that belied the turmoil raging within me, I dialed Mark's number. As I awaited his answer, my mind raced with thoughts of everything that could go wrong in my absence.
