Chapter 5

Liz POV:

Beep.

Beep.

Beep.

Ugh. Stupid alarm. I reach over and turn it off. I feel like I haven’t gotten sleep in a week. I roll over and throw my blankets off. I get out of bed and go to my bathroom. I brush my teeth and take a shower. When I’m done, I wrap a towel around body and go to my closet to find clothes. I decide on a teal flowy summer dress with short sleeves, a pair of brown ankle boots and a brown belt to go around my waist.

I go to the bathroom and towel dry my hair and brush it putting it into a messy bun. I put on a little eyeliner and mascara. I grab my bag and walk down stairs. I go to the kitchen and make myself a bowl of cereal. Just as I’m about to sit down at the table I hear my phone ping with a message.

Louise: Hey girly! Want me to pick you up today?

It’s a beautiful day and she lives half a mile in the other direction from the school I think to myself.

Me: Na I’m k. It’s too beautiful not to walk. I’ll see you at school.

I text back and put my phone back into my bag. I wonder why she wants me to ride with her? She’s only asked a few times since she has gotten her license.

I finish my bowl of cereal and rinse out my bowl before putting it in the dish washer.

I grab my bag and walk out the door locking it behind me. I’m glad this time of year is beautiful. There is a nice breeze going on, birds are chirping and light traffic sounds on the street. I’m glad our pack isn’t by a huge city. I don’t think I could stand all the noise of it. Here and now is like the perfect amount that I can handle with my sensitive hearing. I put in one of ear phones to listen to music but still be safe enough to hear things around me.

As I get to school, I noticed Robbie getting out of a black truck. He notices me and waves me over.

“Good morning, Liz!” He greeted with a huge smile.

“Good morning, Robbie.” I greeted back with a wave. “How are you this morning?”

“I’m great. How about yourself?” He asked walking around the truck to me.

“I’m good. Enjoying this beautiful morning.” I said as I noticed movement in the window of the truck. “Um, is there someone in your truck?”

He chuckles and scratches his neck looking back “Ya, that’s my buddy Alec. He insisted on bringing me to school today. He, uh, has never been away from the pack school but didn’t want to come here for the whole year.”

“Ah, I can understand that. That’s why I’m not going to the pack school this year. I didn’t want to leave here. I don’t really like going new places.” I said understandingly. “Is he going to leave or sit in the parking lot all day to wait on you?”

“Ha-ha. No, he is actually going to shadow me for today. His parents got the ok from the school board for one day.” He said turning to the truck. “Hey bro you coming or not. If so, hurry your ass up.” Shaking his head.

I laughed at him watching the truck door open and seen the most gorgeous guy step out that I had ever seen. I stop laughing and my mouth hangs open a little. This guy has on a pair of slight baggy dark denim blue jeans, a white t-shirt and black tennis shoes. His hair makes it look like he just got out of bed. I mean Robbie is gorgeous too but he has nothing on his friend.

I shake my head and close my mouth as Robbie’s friend’s shut’s the truck door with a beep locking it. As his friend walks over Robbie introduces up. “Liz this is my friend Alec. Alec this is Liz.” I raise my hand to shake his.

“It’s nice to meet you, Miss Liz.” Alec says as he grabs my hand and kisses the top of it.

I slowly pull my hand back and let it rest by the side. That was weird I thought to myself. I see Robbie giving Alec a questioning look after he did that.

“I’m gonna go find Louise. I’ll see you guys later.” I said as I started backing away and turning to walk off. I got half way across the parking lot before I realized they had snuck up and was walking beside me. It made me jump not realizing they were there.

“Jeez guys, make some freaking noise next time. Just scared the hell out of me.”

“We’re sorry.” Robbie said and they both laughing. “Didn’t realize you were so easy to sneak up on.”

I swatted at him which caused them to laugh even more.

“Oh, you just wait mister. I’ll beat your ass in gym today. I designate you as my sparring partner!” I said with a smirk. That got them to shut up because they are both looking at me like I have lost my mind.

“Um, I don’t think that would be a good idea. Have you not seen the size of this piece of sexy meat standing next to me?” Alec asked with an amused expression. “He will squash you like a bug.”

“Just because someone is smaller in all aspects doesn’t mean you need to underestimate them.” I said and stalked off to find Louise. I don’t know why but when anyone says stuff like that it just pisses me off and makes me see red. I get to my locker and see Louise standing there waiting for me.

“Morning Liz!” she said cheerfully. “How was your ‘beautiful’ walk this morning to school?”. Louise asked adding air quotes to beautiful.

“It was good until I seen Robbie and his pack friend outside. His friend kind of pissed me off.” I said shrugging off my bag to exchange books out.

“Ok? What happened and what was said?”

“You know how hard I train and practice? And how I had when people underestimate me just because I’m smaller on the size spectrum?”

She looks at me and nods her head.

“His friend has just underestimated this chick and will see firsthand in gym class that size won’t matter when it comes to kicking someone’s ass.” I stated feeling my anger rising.

“Can I get front row seats for this show?” Louise said with a raised eyebrow and a knowing smirk.

I nodded my head telling her hell yes.

“Hey Robbie is headed this way. And oh my, who’s that handsome devil with him?” Louise asked as I whip my head around. I groan. Can I not get a break this morning before first period? Ugh!

“That’s Alec.” I said annoyed, then mumbled “He’s the asshole in my anger this morning.”

As I finish my statement, they walk up to us.

            “Hey guys.” Robbie said warily.

“Hey Robbie. Who’s the cute friend?” Louise asked batting her eyelashes.

I smack Louise’s arm. “Seriously?” I whisper shout to her.

“What? He’s freaking hot!” Louise whisper shouts back.

“Louise this is my friend Alec. Alec this is Liz’s friend Louise.” Robbie says.

Louise and Alec shake hands and smile at each other. Oh great, wonder what in the world she is thinking. On second thought I probably don’t want to know.

“Louise, I’ll see you in third hour. I’m headed to the gym.” I said as I close my locker and head towards the gym.

As soon as I get to the gym, I head straight to the girl’s locker room. I hurry up and get changed, grab my headphone and put them in before I even walk out. I don’t want to talk to anyone right now. Luckily, I don’t run into anyone today and head toward the indoor track to run a few laps before class starts.

Besides boxing running always helps with my mood. I’m almost done with my fifth lap when I feel someone beside me keeping pace. I glance over and see that it’s Robbie. I roll my eyes and make myself run faster. Before I know it, he has caught up with me again. Since I’m done running my laps I slow down to a jog and run off the field to find my water bottle.

He follows me. I spin around to ask him why he’s following me, when I run right in to him. I had to grab ahold of arm to keep myself from falling. I felt a rush of heat run up my finger tips and I hastily let go and step back.

I look up to him and cock an eyebrow. “What do you want Robbie?”

He leans down close to my face so I can only hear. “I want you to show Alec what you can do. I know you can take him. Show him what a real sparring match looks like. He needs to learn that she-wolves are just as capable as we are. I didn’t like what he said about you. That pissed me off.” With that being said he stands up straight, gives me a wink and walks off.
