I was still in bed. Even when Jake showed up at my door, I didn’t move. I didn’t want him to hear me. Pathetic, I know, but I wasn’t ready to see him. I grabbed my phone, switching it on. The moment I did, the text from Jake came through, along with the missed calls and voicemail. I checked the text first and then listened to the voicemail. He sounds sad in it. He was probably confused and wondering what the hell happened. Maybe I should have given him time to talk before I hung up, but I can’t do anything about that now.
