Chapter Twenty-eight

Aldine's heart sank, but he knew better than to question Kael's orders. He had seen firsthand the cruelty and ruthlessness that lay beneath the facade of the soon-to-be king. Gathering his courage, he spoke with a tone of determination tinged with trepidation.

"I promise you, Your Highness, I will not fail you. I will keep a close watch on Nadine and ensure she doesn't escape or cause any trouble. You have my word."

Kael's eyes narrowed, his voice laced with a warning. "See to it that you do so, Aldine. I won't hesitate to deal with you personally if you let her slip through your fingers. I expect unwavering loyalty and efficiency from you."

Aldine's heart raced, the weight of Kael's threat bearing down on him. He understood the consequences of failure all too well. Taking a deep breath, he composed himself and responded, "I will not disappoint you, Your Highness. I will remain steadfast in my duties and protect your interests."
