Chapter 64

I was exhausted from the events of the previous night when I walked into the house, and as I did so, I observed that the draperies were open to some degree, allowing the late morning sunlight to shine through them. We were together in the kitchen, where Alissa was quietly perched on one of the stools, and the space around us was eerily silent. I was at a loss to explain the precipitous drop in temperature, so I frowned as I tried to process the information.

"Everything okay?" I queried while incorporating a note of apprehension into the tone of my voice.

She only glanced at me for a moment, but her eyes were as frigid as ice. She muttered, "Fine," before returning her focus to whatever had captivated her attention before.
