When I was discharged with a bright smile, I wandered through the streets of Atlanta, ending up standing on the sidewalk, the very one where he had called me for the last time.

There, where I had seen his eyes look at me with such fear of losing me, not even for a second thinking about how much I would suffer being on this side of the cruel universe.
