We finally arrived at the penthouse. It was much bigger than I expected and was designed contemporarily. I didn't know Alex had such a property on the outskirts of the state.

An elderly lady was already there to welcome us. The penthouse didn't look deserted, I guess Alex had given it to her to take care of it. She greeted Alex excitedly and he introduced me to her as his wife and introduced the elderly lady to me as Gloria- his mum's close friend. She hugged me briefly and accompanied me to my room. I heaved a sigh of relief and unpacked my bags. After finishing my nightly routine, I was extremely happy crawling into bed.

Something about going to bed usually brought me joy and contentment. Maybe, it was the anticipation of a good night's sleep or tomorrow's new beginning that I always looked forward to the next day. Suddenly, there was a knock on my door followed by the turning of the handle. I turned to see Alex coming towards me. "Is something wrong?" I asked, unsure.
