"I know, Mr. Holt," Jessamine responded.

Thaddeus added, "You can use my supplementary card until the divorce is finalized."

"No need. Leave it for Amy," Jessamine said.

Thaddeus had finally managed to suppress his anger, but those words sparked it again. Ever since they signed the divorce agreement, Jessamine seemed like she had taken a stimulant. For every word he said, she had a counter of ten. She had become sharp-tongued.

"I'm being nice to you," Thaddeus sneered.

With that, he stumbled into the shower.

Jessamine stared blankly at the ceiling for a while. Then she found a pajama and went to sleep in the guest room. Learning from her experience, the first thing she did upon entering was to lock the door.

The sense of security in the first 20 years of her life came from her mother and grandmother, but now it came from this lock.

She couldn't help but mock herself, wondering if putting a lock on her heart would make her hurt less.
