24: Second Wedding

I woke up to a nauseatingly loud beeping. Rolling over, I covered my head with a pillow, trying to drown out the sound. I didn’t know what time it was, but my body informed me that it was too early to be up. The beeping stopped, only to start up again a minute later and what seemed even louder. I threw the cover off of me and sat up with a loud groan.

“I’m up!” I shouted at nothing and no one in particular. I rubbed my hands over my face as the bedroom door opened.

“Princess Jilliannah, forgive me. I forgot to set the alarm for a different time. Ambassador Howard was the last to sleep here, and he liked getting up now.”

I shook my head, getting out of bed. “It’s fine, Erica.” I stretched and grabbed the toiletry bag, heading into the bathroom.
