Chapter 89

Cody

A black sedan car was waiting for us at the airport, Atlas and I bundled ourselves into it and took in the sights as we were driven from Dallas airport. The landscape is different to what I am used to as we pull out of the terminal and onto the main road. It’s flat at this juncture, I am used to mountain peaks capped from late fall with a dusting of snow, a sight that always catches my breath.

“We will be at the destination in thirty minutes.” The driver whose name we now know is Ed, he has worked as a driver for fifteen years having retired from the police force early due to injury and not wanting to go into P.I. work. He also explained to Atlas and I that he prefers the more sociable and less dangerous hours to spend with his grandkids who are three and five respectively. He likes being home for dinner when he can be and loves that he gets to be onboard with the hockey team he has followed for most all of his life.
