CHAPTER 9: Even if you're close, it feels like you're far away.

"Servant, you look familiar?"

I moved swiftly to avoid the woman who seemed to recognize me.

BOOM!

I didn't notice I'd bumped into someone tall, someone wearing long clothes. In my haste, I hastily covered my face. He was a member of the council.

"Watch out!" he yelled, his eyes blazing. I didn't say anything; might he have recognized me just by my voice?

He also spotted my gold watch as I put it in my pocket after picking it up off the ground after I bumped him.

I remained silent and kept my mouth shut. I continued my walk.

"Stop!"

My response remained impassive. A few moments later, the man approached me again without hesitation.

I turned my face downward as his hand came closer and touched the piece of black cloth that was worn to cover half of my entire face.

"Why do you hide your face, servant?! Are you ugly or..." he was confused and stopped, "On ---." He could not continue speaking when a familiar voice was heard that reminded me of the past.
