Dangerous Encounter

Daphne heaved a heavy sigh as the train stops in Hawkins.

Memories of her life here came rushing at her at once and she’s fighting so hard to push back her tears.

Once they make it to the large road, she could flag down a taxi to convey her children to her aunt's home.

They were not the talking type ever since she lost her parents in a car accident. They offered to take her in then but because her aunt and her husband are very tricky and greedy people, she refused to live with them

It’s quite unfortunate, she is got no other alternative than to stay with them for a while.

After safely getting her quad to a safe place from prying eyes that finds her kids amusing, she quickly flagged down a taxi.

Her loads were too much and could not fit in properly so the taxi left.

Two more left because of the luggage and she was getting worried.

She went back to her kids and made sure they sat together, each of them on each of the pieces of luggage. She then went to the main road to reason with other taxis.

She was doing this when a car passed by in a flash and splashed water on her dress.

She cried out in annoyance and was about to run after the car but she reconsidered cause of her kids. She was angry the driver didn’t stop to apologize to her and so she note down the plate number on her phone.

She checked everywhere for cameras and smiled when she saw two around the area.

“Rich people should learn manners too,” she said.

Finally, a taxi waited when she pointed to her luggage and children. She was considered but she had to pay extra money.

She arrived at her aunt’s place and the taxi driver helped her with the pieces of luggage because he finds the kids amusing and adorable.

He even gave them pet names during the ride but she didn’t allow him to touch their cheeks when he wanted to.

“Thanks, you can leave now,” she said to the taxi driver who was unwilling to leave.

Her Aunt came outside to receive her with a smile and she played with the kids cheerfully.

“So glad to finally meet your kids! Grandma does send me pictures and videos of them” she confessed.

Daphne hated the idea but it was all gone. She faked a smile and ushered her kids inside.

“I don’t plan on staying for long Aunt Leah, once I find a stable job, I will move out so as not to trouble you,” Daphne said.

“And the kids? How will you cope with work IF you later find one?!” She said stressing the If as if she wouldn’t allow her to find one.

“I will get a nanny for them!” She said straight up.

Aunt Leah did nothing but gawk at her beautiful face and the pretty kids she’s got.

Daphne would have smacked her down if she was a relative, the way she explores her body was so sick.

“You look beautiful and promising as always! I told Jerry but he didn't believe” she mumbled.

“By the way, where is Uncle Jerry?” she asked.

Immediately she broke into tears, she’s dramatic as ever.

“We should find food for the kids first, let's discuss over lunch,” she said.

She ordered her house help to serve the food prepared for them as Grandma Sarah informed her of their coming.

“We are facing a very big problem, Daphne, the company is in huge debt and your Uncle is sick” she explained.

“Uh? What happened?” She asked.

Aunt Leah’s left eye twitched, it was obvious she was about to make up a lie but Daphne missed it.

“I don’t want to talk about that, I might cry and you won’t be able to stop me,” she said crying.

“So sorry Aunt,” she said.

Her kids did nothing but eat silently but with Aunt Leah crying, they stopped to study her.

“You should eat kids, she’s okay” Daphne assured her worried kids.

But Noah muttered a word “She’s good at lying”

“Did you say something baby Noah?” Aunt Leah asked.

“He said you’re so nice Aunt,” Daphne said.

——

Jerry arrived so late in the night when the kids and Daphne were asleep.

“Have you tried talking to her?” Jerry said.

Leah hushed her husband and suggest they enter their room first— “Jerry she just came today, we can’t tell her yet” she said.

“I only agreed to her coming with her kids because of the deal you mentioned!” He sounds frustrated.

The couple heard the Williams household is on the lookout for a well-trained bride for their disabled son and they plan in talking Daphne into it by making a deal to watch over her kids in return. They planned to get on their good side and revive their business if Daphne should be a daughter-in-law of the household.

“Let her search for a job for just a week, I’ll make sure she’s left with no choice but to give in to our plan,” Aunt Leah said.

——

The Next morning, Daphne bade her kids farewell as she was ready to go job hunting with her files. She applied online to different companies and took tests overnight too. So instead of waiting to be called for interviews, she decided to go out too.

She’s going to grab the job that comes first.

She’s neatly dressed in a white T-shirt and short office skirt, she packed her bright auburn hair into a ponytail and the bountiful length spreads beautifully on her shoulder. She’s got healthy hair.

With her bag tightly clasped under her arm and her files in her hands, she dropped a file in a rush to cross the road before it turns red.

She turned around to pick it up and rushed into the road without looking. A car was forced to a screeching halt because of her and the onlookers screamed in concern.

She was scared out of her mind as well and she lift her eyes to check the plate number of the Rolls Royce. ‘The same car that splashed water on her dress yesterday.

Her heart throbs heavily when the door came opened and a wheelchair was carried out first.
