Before We Knew

Elena POV

I bolted out of the elevator and ran straight out of the front doors not stopping until I hit the woods. I never wished I could shift so badly in my life than I do right now.

"Welcome to every second of my life" Davina commented and I just internally rolled my eyes as we were the same soul, same life.

Every werewolf shifts on their 16th birthday, but mine never came to the surface. A few months ago, a voice started appearing in my mind. At first, I thought this was proof I was going insane, but eventually I figured out it was my wolf. I knew there had to be magic at play so, I never told anyone.

Our wolf is a part of us, but more like a split personality similar to when a human is drunk or on drugs. It's you, but with lower inhibition, little decency, and always wants to mate. You're split in half with one side a human having morals, rational thoughts, and the other side a savage beast with sinful intentions.

On our 18th birthday we can find our fated mate, which also kicks our hormones into hyperdrive. It's not an instant sensation or distinct scent at first. It's more like a nagging pull to be close to that person. The more time spent together the greater the pull becomes.

Once fated mates are marked their souls are merged in every way. They share emotions and can't be separated too long without falling into depression. Up until 18 we are like normal human teenagers, but then after 18 our main desire is rooted in finding our mate, whether it be fated or chosen.

All I knew was in this moment, with Elijah, something changed inside me and I wanted to break free from who I was. Maybe it was because I'm so close to my 18th birthday, or finding my boyfriend with another girl, or maybe it was something to do with the gorgeous man that made me feel so alive.

After running in the woods for almost 30 minutes I found a tree to lean against to catch my breath. I didn't know if anyone followed me or even where I was. Then the fear started trickling in. Shit! I could have ran on someone's territory or worse, abandoned land with Rogues.

There was faint crackling in the woods to my right so I took off back the way I came. I began cursing at my stupidity as I imagined a demon bear chasing me. I knew that didn't exist, but anxiety and fear would play tricks on any creature's mind.

A large brown wolf jumped in front of me. I slid on my heels to stop with a scream and then pivoted to quickly shoot off in the opposite direction.

"Fuck! I'm so fucked." I said through heavy breaths as I continued running from what I knew was a Rogue. They let out an aura of loneliness and anger with a fowl scent of evil because they belonged to no one. Since they abandoned the ways of our goddess, they were mostly emotionless and brutal. They killed for sport, fucked at their own whim, with or without consent, and lived off the grid mostly in wolf form.

Another two wolves jumped in front of me. I skidded to a halt and took off in another direction with three wolves at my heels. I could hear their excitement from the chase, and it made me curse even more. I couldn't just stay still, but running only made them want to kill me a hundred times more. Hunting their prey made them both aroused and lethal.

The first wolf was nipping at my heels and reached out to claw my shoulder. A scream ripped through my lungs as the razor-sharp nails tore open my skin. I didn't stop though. Tears streamed down my cheeks, blurring my vision as blood poured down my arm. I would fully heal in a few hours since I was of Alpha blood, but that didn't mean it didn't hurt like hell.

As I weaved in and out of the trees, I caught a glimpse of a shadow moving in front of me. It had to be my mind playing tricks on me because shadows didn't move, yet that's what it looked like.

I could hear water flowing up ahead and I prayed it to be my pack's border. If I could jump over the river the Rogues wouldn't dare cross. I just needed to outrun the three feral wolves and a mythical shadow creature my mind was adding to the mix.

I could see the river and pushed a little harder. I glanced back and saw only one wolf behind me now. There was no time to figure out what happened to the other two. I was too close to my territory to stop.

As I pushed off the ground to jump over the river the other wolf swatted at my leg, causing me to fall and stumble into the water. My thigh was gushing blood making me unable to stand.

Fear and anger were filling my head, causing the water to start building around me. I never used my magic in the open before, but I wasn't going to die. I never heard of werewolves to have magic, yet from an early age I knew I could control all the elements. It was a secret that could get me killed or worse, enslaved.

I closed my eyes and prayed there were no prying eyes as the water rose slowly, waiting to drown my attacker. Just as the brown wolf lunged at me another pure black wolf tackled it to the ground.

This black wolf was almost twice the size of an average wolf. It seemed to dip in and out of the shadows as he fought my predator. The smaller wolf tried to escape multiple times, but couldn't get out of the beast's grasp. The black wolf was out for blood and I knew it would not stop until he killed the Rogue.

The wolves fighting continued into the woods until I could no longer see them. I finally got onto one leg and started hopping deeper into the water. It was a wide river and I had to get to the other side. I didn't want to use my magic, but if it meant not drowning, then I would do whatever it took.

Halfway through the river my head snapped behind me hearing a hopeless howl. I knew it was the final blow to the brown wolf. I couldn't help but smile at the thought of that Rogue never being able to hurt anyone again. I had compassion and valued life, but I also knew when a beast exists with so much vicious power, sometimes it had to be put down.

The water was now at my shoulders and my leg was screaming in pain. I stopped for a few moments and concentrated on my wounds, forcing them to heal faster. I didn't have enough strength to heal them completely, but if I could lessen the pain then I could move the water away from me to finish crossing.

As I was lost in the thralls of my magic, I felt strong arms wrap around my waist. My breath caught in my lungs at the contact, then I actually moaned. I leaned my head on his hard bare chest as he lifted me up bridal style.

"What the fuck is wrong with you little wolf?" Elijah said as he carried me to the other side of the river.

"Where the hell did you come from? Are you the black wolf?" I asked, gawking at this beautiful man with torturous lips so close to mine.

"What? Black wolf? They don't exist, at least not anymore." He shook his head with a chuckle.

I smacked his arm annoyed he didn't take me serious. "I know what I saw. Don't laugh at me!" My finger poked him in the chest which just caused him to laugh more.

"You're adorable. I saw you run into the woods and stupidly decided to follow you. I heard you scream and wolves howling, I thought Rogues for sure. I almost hauled my ass out of here, but then I thought, I can't just leave your body out here. Wouldn't be very gentlemen of me. To my surprise, I find you alive and breathing, trying to drown yourself."

"You're a jerk." I deadpanned. I really thought he was my hero, my midnight wolf, but obviously he was not.

I tried wiggling out of his arms, noticing the water was becoming shallower. Before I could get away, he grabbed my leg tightly to check my wound. His face turned confused at my almost healed cuts. I'm sure he saw it gushing out blood only minutes ago in the water.

"That looked a lot worse." He said with worry etched in his voice. His fingers grazed across my thigh, and it sent electricity straight through us. I could see in his face that my skin under his was arousing him.

"The Rogue barely scratched me plus being all werewolfy I heal fast." I said quickly, jumping out of his arms. I wasn't sure how to play this off, but he couldn't know of my magic.

I stuck out my tongue finally getting free, then splashed him with water. He laughed shielding his eyes then splashed me back making me squeal. I started running to the shore as he chased after me. We both teased each other while laughing and for a moment we forgot who we were or what just happened.

His smile easily reached his eyes and his full laugh made my heart skip a beat. His wet black hair fell in front of those glacier blue eyes, making me want to just stay here forever.

Once he caught up to me, he grabbed me by the waist and threw me back into the water, turning my scream into a gargle of water.

I now stood waist deep in the river ringing out my red wig. "You are the worst knight in shining armor, Alpha Elijah."

I saw how he instantly lost his breath at my words. Hearing his name turned his eyes black with lust. There was something strange about this man, something mysterious.

"You want me to rescue you, little wolf?" He challenged as he stalked towards me.

I noticed the change from playfulness to desire and couldn't stop myself from becoming aroused myself. My ocean eyes started to swirl with silver as Davina came to the surface.

'Please give him all of us Elena.' Davina begged in my head as we watched his chiseled body draw closer. I reached my hand to his bare chest, tracing his sleek hard muscles. My finger tips trailed in-between every curve of his six pack as Davina peppered one naughty position after another in my head.

Elijah hissed at my touch as it sent little waves of ecstasy straight to his core, creating a tent in his pants. His hand reached for my chin lifting my eyes to his.

He leaned into my lips, but quickly changed directions to my ear. His hot breath made the wetness grow in my panties which I'm sure he could smell every drop of.

"You shouldn't start something you don't intend on finishing. I promise I will be anything but a gentleman with you." He whispered, then kissed down my jaw line to my neck with a little bite and a tug. I first gasped at the pain, then it sent nothing but pleasure through me.

His body was tense and face confused. I'm sure he sensed my fear back in the elevator. He didn't pull away from me, just carefully peppered kisses, waiting for my reaction with every touch of his.

I couldn't resist him, no matter how much my mind tried to reason with me. Davina didn't help and I knew she was falling helpless at his strong Alpha presence. I knew he wouldn't be a sweet or gentle lover. He was powerful and his wolf needed complete submission. Being an Alpha myself I wasn't sure I could give that to him.

His hand moved the top of my dress to the side, and I moaned again as his hot mouth instantly captured my breast. He sucked hard, biting my nipple and I completely melted to this man.

I was instantly panting, grabbing a fistful of his hair to encourage his assault on my body. His hand gripped tightly at my waist, bunching my dress above my ass and my legs lifted to wrap around him as my back arched in pleasure.

We were grinding against each other, both about to cum just from the intensity of our touch. His hands straightened my back, moving his mouth back to mine, and I caved letting him take all control.

His tongue dominated, swallowing every sensual sound I made as he walked us to the beach and then laid me down. His hand went straight to my thin underwear needing him to remove the little barrier I had between us.
