The last thing Elena remembered was holding on To the man’s arm, the man who had been there when she fell off the cliff.

She had rolled, tumbling in fire, her body battered by rocks on the mountain, and the smell of petrol choking her.

Then suddenly, the fire was out. But Elena barely noticed with the way her skin still burned and the intense pain in her stomach.

She was going to die, the thought filled her with dread but she couldn't move.

Then he was there. She heard him more than saw him but a man had definitely found her and he was speaking to some other people.

Maybe she would survive, maybe somehow she could make it past this hell. She groaned internally as two sets of hands hoisted her up onto a flat hard surface.

It was marginally better than the rocks she had been on, but her flesh resting on the hard stretcher only bought her pain.

She was blacking out, or at least something like it when she heard the man, her savior, mention the police.

All thoughts of pain flew
