My head pounded in my head as I peeled my eyes off Naomi and ran after the ambulance that conveyed my mother to the clinic.

Her shrimp allergy was one of the various allergies that were extreme, so extreme that if it wasn't managed, she could die. For that particular reason, shrimp was banned in every dish that was made for us throughout my child hood.

And when she left the house, my mother always had an allergy pen tucked safely In her purse.

But she decided n8t to bring one today, because a very comprehensive allergy list was given to us.

The list was given to Violet, who in turn gave it to Naomi, who then decided to make this dish, with shrimp inside.

It was a mistake, it definitely was. But what sort of mistake was that? One that almost cost me my mother's life?
