Chapter 3: Katie Clyde

Her alarm clock kept on ringing wildly, but Katie Clyde was still on her bed sleeping soundly.

The room quietened down, and the sun shone inside the room, but Katie Clyde was still snoring.

Her phone started ringing, she stirred, and grumpily reached out for it, with her eyes shut “hello, can't you call when it is morning” she mumbled.

“You are dead Katie Clyde, we are in trouble, they are about to submit the assignment, and you Miss Clyde thirty minutes, twenty-three seconds late, get your lazy ass over here” Chloe yelled like a lunatic.

Katie's eyes widened in shock, in panic, she jumped down from her bed and ran into the bathroom, and bath quickly, grabbing a backpack.

She darted out of the screen door, and locked it, before jogging towards her trunk “Katie, why are you rushing?” granny Fray inquired, she is surprised to see Katie in a panic mood.

“Good morning, Granny Fray, I will see you when I get back” she got into her old trunk, and mumbled words of prayer, she shoved the stick.

When the engine roared, she drove down to school, and when she arrived, she met Chloe leaning on the parking lot wall.

Her face darkened when she saw Katie, she strolled towards her “Katie Clyde, you Miss, have cost us numerous marks by oversleeping, and refusing to attend to special duties on time”

Katie nodded without uttering any words, “I know, can we submit our assignment now? I am afraid that Mr Grumpy G, won't accept it after now”. 

Chloe sighed heavily and shrugged, “let's go then” she consented, and the both of them entered the school building and arrived at the lecturer's door.

They rang the doorbell before a voice hollered “come in” the both of them nudged each other for whom to go in, before Katie volunteered, and opened the door.

The professor adjusted his eyeglasses and locked his gaze with the two young ladies who got into his office, “Katie Clyde, and … Oh, yes, I remember you, who won't? Miss Chloe Ferguson” he said and his frown deepened.

Katie resisted the urge to roll her eyes at him, “Professor Stalwart George, I am sorry, I have to….”

He cut her off, “I am not interested in hearing what you want to say, Miss Katie Clyde, drop your assignments and leave” he snapped.

“Thank you, thank you” Katie Clyde thanked him excitedly.

The man raised askance eyebrows “do you want to retrieve your assignment?” he reposted, Katie rattled her head, and the both of them scurried to the door, the corners of Professor George's lips twitched.

Katie Clyde beamed “I am going to the laboratory,” she told Chloe, “go ahead, I have to hang out with Lucas, we had a nice outing l…”

“I would rather not hear” Katie Clyde covered her ears, and jogged away, she bumped into Catherine, and the smile on her face vanished.

Catherine folded her arms with a frown, “Katie Clyde, what is making you all jelly, and giddy?” she inquired curiously.

Katie frowned and tried to bypass her without saying a word, she grabbed her wrist, but Katie snatched her arm from Catherine and glared at her.

“What is your problem, Catherine?” she snapped.

Catherine chuckled “Katie, I warned you to stop seeing Kelvin, and here you are smiling and floating…”

Katie chimed in haughtily, “I can't smile anymore because Catherine has a boyfriend in the school, get a hold of yourself. You look so ugly with that make-up, so sad, Kelvin might get scared away with your current face”.

Catherine gasped and touched her face, looking horrified, Katie sneaked away in the moment of distraction, she exhaled and headed towards the laboratory.

She got into the laboratory and wore her lab coat, and covered her head, she also wore gloves.

“Katie Clyde, you are late!” she heard someone yell at her, she raised her head and beamed “Senior, not like that, wait… I sent the letter to senior Carvin, and he said numerous nice things” she exaggerated.

The girl scolding Katie earlier started blushing “Really?” she inquired curiously, Katie nodded “of course, he even asked me to call you, he is waiting for you, don't keep the love of your life waiting”

Rose became flustered, she examined herself before Katie Clyde after dropping the file she is clutching to “how do I look Katie, I am terrified that he won't like this, should I go home and change to something sexier? More presentable?” she barraged Katie with so many disturbing questions.

“You look pretty, it is good, he will drool over you, get on, don't keep him waiting” she urged her, she can't keep up with the lie.

Rose nodded and left afterwards, Katie exhaled in relief, and strode into the research area “come on guys, see who will have here?” a boy announced.

Three other boys who were busy looking into a chemical solution turned around and glared at her 

“Well, well, is no other person than Katie Clyde, she is always on time” his voice became louder towards the end of his statements.

Others chuckled “Guys, I am sorry, I wanted to be here very early, but I had a rough nig-” one of the guys chimed in “of course, you did, who will not after hopping on several hard shafts” 

The smile on Katie's face was replaced with a shocking facial expression “Cathy, told us that she caught you standing in a red-light district, making out with several guys, Katie, stop pretending, we know who you are now”

Katie was exasperated after hearing the accusation, she saw their facial expressions and knew it will be a waste explaining to them, they all looked at her with disdain, and they loathe her more now, for rejecting their love proposals.

“Katie Clyde, you are now a loner” one of them commented, and they backed her, working together, while Katie was left all by herself, she rubbed her tempo in frustration “Catherine Whitelaw!” she muttered and gritted her teeth.
