Chapter 4: Deception

She was furious, remembering that she has deceived someone earlier, her eyes widened in shock, and she quickly buried her head in her work.

After concluding the task, she left the laboratory, ignoring the glares she got from the guys.

“Katie Clyde!” she heard Rose's voice yelling her name, she ducked into a corner, and saw Rose barging into the laboratory, her face red, she looked very mad at her.

She sneaked out, and ran away, arriving at the canteen, she took a deep breath, “that was close” she mumbled.

She remembered how she removed the cover in her head, the way she flung the gloves, and the way she grabbed her backpack and arrived at the canteen.

Katie arrived at the counter, and locked gaze with the woman in charge “Katie Clyde, where is your tag?” the woman in charge demanded, without giving her any chance to say anything.

She sighed heavily thanking her stars, that the mischievous Cornell didn't make it to school, who would know if he is going to steal her food pass once again?

She stretched her arms with a beaming smile “Madam Carol, here!” she said, the woman hesitated.

“You can now make your order” she responded and rolled her eyes, and walked away.

“I want a cup of ice cream, some bums, beans cake, and a burger-”

She was still making orders when he heard Madam Carol call her out “Katie Clyde, you have exceeded the normal orders, this isn't one of your dates”

Katie Clyde frowned after being scolded, she received her order, made her way to her table, and settled down, she started gobbling the food.

She nearly choked on her food when Kelvin took his order to sit with her, “what is the matter? Are you okay, Katie?” he inquired with a tender voice.

She grabbed the glass of water and gulped, took a deep breath and faced him “I am fine” she replied, and buried her head in her food, trying so hard to ignore him.

When Kelvin saw what she was doing, he poked her head “you will choke on the food, if you keep eating so fast, and without raising your head at all, to give your upper region a break” he cautioned her.

She is eating so fast all because of him, she prayed inwardly that Catherine doesn't come and see them “Katie, why are you not saying anything? Did my presence make you feel uncomfortable?” 

Katie nodded her head without raising her head, how can he not see Catherine is interested in him? she pondered.

She raised her head and her eyes widened in shock, “Oh- my God” she exclaimed, earning looks toward her.

Catherine entered, with her friends escorting her from behind, “damn, Katie!” she scolded herself.

And quickly stood on her feet, strapped her backpack, gulped a mouthful of water, and jogged three feet away from her table.

She returned to her table and grabbed the coke and burger, “not going to leave you” she said.

 Kelvin's corners of lips twitched, and he looked at Katie longingly as she ran off from the canteen.

She got into her trunk, and took a deep breath before driving out of the school, Chloe saw her driving away.

“Katie! Stop!” she yelled, throwing caution to the winds, but Katie's mind was occupied, and the loud sound coming from the engine drowned Chloe's voice.

“What a befitting friend” a boy standing by made a mocking remark “none of your business” Chloe snorted without looking at the person.

With long strides, she walked away, she paused briefly and turned around wide-eyed, she nearly smack her face for ruining the first time her crush talked to her.

“Brien!” she half-yelled, and muted promptly, she couldn't control her overreacting feelings, the boy shook his head and walked away “crazy!” he muttered and left.

Chloe touched her forehead with a big frown “Katie Clyde, you are the reason that I lost my long-time crush” she first mumbled, and at the end, she shouted.

Some bystanders looked at her worriedly, “is she going crazy?”

“I guess, who won't go crazy with a friend like Katie Clyde?”

Her eyes bulged when she heard all the whisperings around, and her face heated and reddened, she couldn't control her emotions. feeling embarrassed, she jogged off.

Katie stepped on the brake and pulled over at the courtyard, she exhaled and alighted from the truck “Child, you are back so early” Granny Fray called her attention.

She was busy in her little garden, tending to her vegetables “Oh- ye… aham, that is oh-” she stuttered incoherently, Granny Fray pursed her lips tightly, wondering what is wrong with Katie.

Before she could say any other word, Katie sneaked away, the corners of Mama Fray's lips twitched, and she bent down and got her hands dirty with the soil.

Opening the door, Katie exhaled in relief when she saw that the man she rescued yesterday was still lying down.

Suddenly, the man lying down, woke up “awoo!” he howled, his eyes blood-red, and his fangs revealed.

Katie, seeing this shocking scene, fainted instantly, and slumped on the floor, the man's chest started heaving, and his eyeballs regained their normal grey and colour.

He placed his feet on the floor, and jerked his head towards the girl lying on the floor, he stood on his feet, towering over six feet.

With long legs, and broad chest, well-formed muscles, and abs, well-defined, with long strides, he gathered Katie in his arms and placed her on the couch.

He started looking around the house, “this place” he mumbled to himself, still stark naked, he looked at the fridge in Katie's little sitting room.

The noise coming from it startled him, he touched the handle, and swung the door of the fridge, bouncing back, and taking a fighting stance.

Well, he saw the cooling culminating from the fridge, and the few bottles of coke, and juice “box” he mumbled.

“Hmm,” he contemplated.
