Arriving Prison

Cameroon climbed out of the bus that had transported him from the court. The bus had contained three other men. They were all transported to the federal prison.

He had been placed in chains and cuffs. On both his legs, hands, and waist.

He felt helpless and fearful. Since the beginning of the trial, this was the first time reality had struck. Just like a thunderbolt. This was his life now, this place.

He knew he was innocent. But there had been times he had doubted himself. He couldn’t remember much from the night of Fred’s disappearance. He had blacked out and didn’t know what had happened. But he was sure he couldn’t have killed his friend and partner.

Yes, he had felt betrayed but who wouldn’t? his friend had slept with his wife, and even worse, he had gotten her pregnant. There was no way he wasn’t going to be hurt by that. But the truth, which the authorities refused to believe was that he had not been aware of that relationship.
