Author's POV

Elizabeth held her breath as she listened raptly to the person on the other end of the phone. After the call ended, she leaned into the chair, trying to think fast on what to do. She has had too many worries to deal with over the week. Her suspicion had been right after all, there has never been a time when her instincts fooled her.

The sudden show of affection between Xander and Kira, coupled with the formers new-found courage to confront her. She should have known they were working together from the beginning. Also, Leila confessed to her how she came about the autopsy result, turns out Kira had sneaked around her study, the day she came for dinner.

It's no longer a puzzle about how Xander got to know about his father's death. She needed to act fast, with what she just heard from her informant. Kira would gather all the evidence she had against them and definitely come after them. There is no way Elizabeth would allow herself to be humiliated in that manner.
