The Lady of Miracles: Drama and Unrest
“Did you find out who she was working for?” He asked. I looked up at him and sighed. It’s not like I actually got a confession out of her but these were all my speculations. I don’t know if I should even be telling this to him since this could only cause a lot more drama. If I were to tell him that I think it was his stepmother, two things could happen:
One, he’ll get really angry and demand to investigate the Empress once again,
or two, he will become wary of what I say.
If someone were to look at it from an outside perspective, it would seem to be impossible for the ex-Empress to make a move while I’m out here in the Taiyou Empire.
However, I know how cunning she can be and this certainly isn’t something impossible for her. As for now, I just have to keep these

“No, she’s tight-lipped. Don’t worry, the guards will take care of it and I know that the Empress has probably been informed of what happened. It annoyed me that the woman who tampered with the vials knew exactly which ones were the medicine that I was focused on. It made me think that there could be a rat somewhere near me. If there was, it would have to be someone who had access to the lab and would have been around while I made the medicine. I could think of a handful of people who fit that criteria. A proper investigation needs to happen so that we can find out if there are more rats hiding in the shadows. “I’ve brought you some food, Hima. You should eat first. “I’ll eat after I finish this vial.” I told Prince Shiro. I thought he was just going to leave the tray on the table and he’ll go back outside to keep guard but I was surprised when he held a spoon to my face. I looked up at him with a confused look on my face. “What are you doing?” I asked him. He smiled and pointed the spoon to my mouth. “You’re too busy to feed yourself so I might as well help you. When the sun had set, I was already on my 4th vial. At this rate, I’ll be finished by midnight so tomorrow at the latest, I can administer the antibiotics to the patients and they can start feeling better. My determination was revived and I did my best to complete all of the medicine. The ones I’ve been making are quite potent yet effective, 1 vial is enough for at least 6 people. 7 if there were children. “Excuse me, Lady Himawari. The Empress has called for your presence.” One of the guards called up to me as I was finishing my 6th vial.

I only needed a few more to complete them but I really needed to meet with the Empress. I have to tell her about my speculations on the sabotage that happened this morning. I was reluctant to leave the tent because of what happened. It was a good thing that Prince Shiro volunteered to stay and guard the lab while I was gone. I felt relieved knowing it would be him watching over the medicine. I quickly made my way to the Empress. We had set up a tent that’s far from the infection site but was close to the lab. I know the Empress would often come and check on the progress so I had the guards and other doctors prepare it.

It needs to be disinfected every hour or so to keep it safe for the Royal family. The last thing I want is for any member of the royal family to get infected with the plague. That could really be bad for all of us. I walked into the tent and I saw that the Empress was waiting for me. Since I came from the lab where there’s a possibility that I could be carrying the bacteria for the plague, I disinfected myself before I came close to the Empress. The disnifection process was relatively quick since I taught the doctors how to properly disinfect each other while working near the infection site. Plus Empress Yukina has made a lot of modern tools available here so it wasn't a problem for me.

“Lady Hima, I heard of what happened.” She said to me. I nodded and sat down on the chair in front of her. I explained to her what happened this morning and what the captured woman told me when I went to the jail cell to interrogate her. The Empress listened intently to my testimony and she would also ask questions to verify my story. This is one of the things I admired about Empress Yukina. Even if you were a commoner or a noble, she would always remain neutral while talking to all the people involved. This made me even more comfortable telling her what had transpired.

“I see… Then I shall have a talk with the perpetrator as well to hear what she has to say.” Empress Yukina answered. I nodded and told her that it was fine with me. I really had nothing to hide since I didn’t do anything wrong. The Empress also asked me about the progress of the cure. I sighed and admitted that what happened this morning seriously took my plan a step away from me. It caused a minor hiccup that could’ve turned into something big if I didn't catch that woman. The stress from what happened caused me to have a minor mental breakdown. I can't believed I cried so much this morning. Now that I think about it, I kinda feel embrassed letting Prince Shiro see me like that.
