Chapter thirty nine

"What? Really?"

Carissa was momentarily speechless, her eyes locked with Dominic's in disbelief, searching for a different explanation. Regrettably, Dominic seemed oblivious to Carissa's gaze, his attention solely on Kathy with a look of affection.

Carissa recognized that gaze all too well. There was a time when she was the sole recipient of such adoration, but now it was directed towards another woman!

"Miss Carissa, welcome back to Stanton. However, our connection isn't deep, so your return doesn't come as a surprise to me. I have some matters to attend to, so I won't be able to escort you," Dominic said, embracing Kathy's waist before making his way toward the elevator.

Carissa couldn't simply let it slide. The person she had been pining for while abroad had seemingly found a new girlfriend in the blink of an eye.

"No! If Kathy were his new girlfriend, she wouldn't have been so kind as to call Dominic just now, and she certainly wouldn't have appeared so composed!"

"Dominic, you m
