Gretchen

Sitting in the stands watching Speed race is the most nerve-racking experience of my life. I was sitting next to Merigold and if it wasn’t for her I don’t think I could have made it through the whole race. She held my hand for most of the race. All around me brothers were cheering for Speed encouraging her to go faster. While I’m sitting there with my stomach in knots. Hell, the kids were calmer than me. But then again this is nothing new to them. Merigold has always gone to Speed’s races and when Jace and Jax were born she took them along but made sure they had their ears protected. I had prepared for this day. I thought I was ready and I could handle anything that happened. Oh, boy was I wrong.

I was ok for the first few laps. They were going around in a circle. I couldn’t see the appeal but I was going to sit and be
