111 : Drenched

VERENA

“Alright.” I whisper and feel the warmth of his touch slowly go away. My body immediately reacts, growls leaving my mouth, and I open my eyes to see him stand a few steps away. The urge to run towards him and cling to him is strong, but I keep my feet pressed to the ground.

“See you soon, Rena,” Elijah says, his voice a low murmur that barely reaches my ears over the rising wind. His eyes hold mine for a beat longer. A part of me wants to cling to him, to plead with him to stay. But he has the responsibility to run his pack on his shoulders and so do I.

But then a cool sensation washes over me. The first fat raindrops splutter on my face. Seconds later, the heavens open up, unleashing a torrent of rain. The air whips around us, thrashing the trees into a frenzy.

My gaze darts to Elijah, his face unreadable as his hair is plastered to his forehead. His clothes are soaked in the rain.
