Chapter 31 A WAY TO SURVIVE

Beatrice found herself in a dark cave, her senses dulled by the lingering haze of unconsciousness, as consciousness slowly returned.

A small fire flickered and danced across the rugged stone walls, illuminating the figure of a man leaned over her, the play of light and shadow masking his features.

Beatrice groaned and tried to get up, but when she did, a stinging pain raced through her body like a flurry bolt.

"Stay still," Lucas blurted out. "You are full of wounds," he added.

Beatrice looked at the man in front of her as her eyes grew used to the low light. It was Lucas, of course, outlined against the fire's flickering light. When she saw him, her heart skipped a beat, and she felt a flurry of emotions as she tried to process what was going on around her.

"L-Lucas..." she called his name. "H-How?"

She couldn't finish her words because Lucas hush her with his finger.

"Rest, Beatrice..." his voice is pleading her.

"B-But... the twins, Lucas..." she tried to get up. "T-They're at the
