The Announcement
Today is the big announcement. I will tell everyone that Shana is my mate. Before I announce it, I have to meet with the guys, since I had already told them that Shana was not my mate. Today is going to be a good day. It’s Friday. Tomorrow is the big party. I believe my dad will pass down the title to me tomorrow since they will see that I have met. Everything will be perfect. I sent a group text to all the boys, so we can meet before class today. I usually ride to school with Ben and Nathan, but I need everyone together. Ben, Nathan, and I arrive at the school. Sam, Eli, and Drew are waiting for us in the front of the building.
“Hi, guys, so I know you all are wondering why I asked you to meet with me before school. As you know, tomorrow is the big party for the 10 of us. As we will all be turning 18, I fully expect my father to pass the alpha title to me at the party.”

After I left Seleste, I just drove around for hours. I parked and went to my quiet spot in the woods, but it did not have the same calming effect it usually had. I can’t explain it, but ever since I rejected Seleste in this spot, it feels depressing to be here. The moon used to shine the brightest in this spot, but the moonlight has become dull here. It’s the morning of my birthday. This year, it’s a little bittersweet. We are having the big birthday party to celebrate all ten of us born within days of each other. It has been a tradition for us to have a pack wide party every year since we were all 1 year old. I used to look forward to this party every year. It is like a holiday for our pack. It is a celebration of the next generation of leaders for the pack, a sort of celebration of continuity. There has always been some sort of celebration for every generation since the pack began. When Shana and I arrive at the party, everything is in full swing. I see my nine friends all sitting at one big table. It’s the same every year.
