21. A Beast And A Betrayer

April's POV

I hopped in the car, and Jacob and I pulled out of the driveway. In a few minutes, we were cruising down the road.

There was silence between us, and the only thing that could be heard was the cool music playing on the car stereo. I clutched my bag and looked out the window, admiring the passing trees as the cool morning breeze whipped my hair around me.

“Hey, April, can I ask you something?” said Jacob, turning to me briefly.

“Sure. What's up?”

He took a deep breath and turned back to the road.

“I know that this is none of my business, but I heard all the commotion when I came by this morning. Is everything okay? Anything that you want to talk about?"

I gulped nervously and turned away. Was I really supposed to be surprised? Of course, he had heard all of Susan's angry yelling. But I couldn't tell him that I was having problems at home. The last thing I needed was for him to get involved.
