Feeling guilty

Jake's POV.

"The Rougebane penetrated deep into her back, reaching her spinal cord. I'm afraid if she doesn't wake up before daybreak tomorrow..."

I already knew what the doctor meant. She only had few hours to live. Who would have done this to her?. The feeling of having no clue is frustrating me to no end.

"What did the doctor say, how is she?" Violet's mum asked. She looked so pale, she had been crying.

"If she doesn't wake up by tomorrow, she'll die." My chest constricted the moment I let those words out. I could feel my head banging as my breath hitched with each passing second. I still wonder what would have happened if Kimberly hadn't gone in search of her.
