Chapter 23

Under the sun, I'm holding tight to her wrist. Thinking about a possible way to survive made me sick in the head. Beads of sweat and tears began to roll down my face. I can hear my own breath. My heartbeat says that this is the end of me.

I felt a strong pull. I was now on my knees and my palms were pushing on the floor. Still breathing fast and heavily, my tears are bouncing on the floor.

I sobbed as my mind woke up to the fact that I was safe. My forehead slowly lowered until it kissed the floor.

I swallowed, giving my silent hallelujah to the deity above who answered my plea.

"Jesus, I thought it was the end of my life," I whispered.

I heard a conversation behind me. Two people are yelling at each other. I inhaled. A few more moments before I exhaled.

Even though my knees were shaking, I stood up. I faced the two people confronting and pointing to each other's faces.

"I don't know if you're still human, Chontel. You can harm your own blood just because of the gossip you hear
