Chapter 69

Kamari's Point of View

There he was, hinging so close to my face. Clasping my hands in his. Desperation clung to his eyes. He was furious about what I had done to myself. The opened cuticles I had torn off. Blood dotting the outside of my nails.

A perfect stranger in my book wanted to know why I was always hurting myself. The explanation felt frail in my mouth. I remained silent. Watched him as he retreated out of my space.

He seemed genuine when he asked me to open up but it felt like a wave would crash too hard on my shore. Recoiling, I pulled my hands out of his grasp and faced away from him. Peered at him only from the corners of my eyes.

"I think I need to go to bed," I whispered and pushed the martini glass away from me.

What had started as a normal conversation between two people ended with my heart about to burst.

"You can't carry on running from this," Malakai replied and took his glass in his hand again. Whilst he swallowed, his Adam's apple bobbed up and down relentle
