26. Feelings Surfacing. Part two

I feel vulnerable, as if he can see through my clothes. I look away and approach Sophie, who is still sleeping peacefully. Her light blonde hair and her round, chubby face give her an angelic appearance. I gently run my fingers over the center of her face, down to her chin, where I offer delicate caresses.

I return to Mr. Bernstorff and sit beside him, holding his hand in mine, offering some form of support. He gives me a weak smile, opens his mouth as if to say something, but quickly closes it, clenching his jaws as he looks towards the door. I notice there's a woman watching us, and from Mr. Bernstorff's reaction, it's clear she's not welcome. We lock eyes for a few seconds until her gaze shifts to Sophie. Tension fills the room.

The woman is stunning, even in high heels, it's clear that she's much taller than me. Her shoulder-length blonde hair and elegant clothing suggest financial comfort, much like Mr. Bernstorff. He approaches her and moves her away from Sophie.
