Dog’s Collar

Elodie’s P.O.V

My upper lips curled into a smug smile and while some stared at me in shock, others gaped at me in awe but most importantly, they kept staring at Marcel whom everyone thought was dead.

I heard Susan gasp from where she sat and honestly, I didn't care because this was the beginning of their misery.

I was just getting started.

As soon as the auctioneer ruled the land in my name, I stood up, perching my sunglasses while Marcel rose and when he stood up, gasps and murmurs echoed through the entire place.

Despite their shock, no one dared to say anything to him nor did they even attempt to lock eyes with him because, in the end, he was the Rogue King, the same person who had terrorized Darius’s pack.

Turning to look at Marcel, the frown on his face vanished, replaced by a bright smile as he tucked the strand of hair that fell on my face behind my ear.

Marcel said. “You did well, Elodie. I am proud of you”

Amidst the palpable tension in the hall, their whispers and murmur filled my head.

“Wait, isn't that Marcel, or is that a clone?”

“I thought that Darius threw a party just because he killed Marcel. If he killed Marcel, then what is he doing here with Darius's ex-wife and the former Luna of the pack?”

“She looks more pretty. She now looks like a reincarnation of the moon goddess. How could he have divorced and cheated on her with her best friend”

Another person said. “If Elodie and Marcel are now together, doesn't that spell doom for Darius?”

At that moment, Susan stood up screaming at the top of her lungs. “Can you all just shut up? How can you say that before Darius?”

Rolling my eyes to the back, Marcel exhaled sharply taking my hands in his. “Shall we?”

I nodded while we both walked hand in hand and when we were outside, the chauffeur was about to open the door to the Maybach when I heard a voice that caused me to stop in my tracks. Turning to look at him, his eyes lightened up, and right behind him was Susan whose eyes widened in horror.

“Elodie” My name rolled off his tongue.

Forcing out a smile, I waved at him. “Hi, Darius, we meet again. I think that it has been eight years already”

Darius was too stunned to speak before he finally muttered. “You are indeed Elodie, My Lu…..”

Before he could complete his statement, Marcel cut in. “My wife. She is my wife”

Turning his eyes to Marcel, he stared at him in horror and stuttered. “What…..do ... .you mean by my wife? You are supposed to be dead”

Marcel stepped forward. “News flash, I am not dead and if you want me to say it again, then I am going to repeat myself. I am now married to Elodie”

Darius almost lost balance before he burst into a peal of hysterical laughter. “This has to be a joke. Do you guys think that this is a movie? And how could you, Elodie? If you were going to remarry, then it shouldn’t be Marcel. He is a dangerous man and he is going to hurt you”

He continued. “Have you forgotten the saying that the devil that you know is better than the Angel that you don’t know?”

I leaned on Marcel’s shoulder, linking arms with him. “I guess that I would just stick with my Angel because I am rest assured that he is going to drive the devil into the hell that he belongs to”

Darius’s face soon went cold and at that moment his jaw clenched. Not paying much attention to him, I darted my eyes to Susan. “You seem a lot happier…..”

Forcing out a smile, she climbed down the stairs, running her fingers through the necklace on her neck. “Who wouldn’t be happy when I am blessed with this wonderful husband who would do anything for me? He spoils me silly and I am not going to pretend that I like you because I am sure that whatever you did there was just a show and you are penniless. Happy people don’t usually feel the need to reiterate that they are happy”

I laughed.

She pointed to her necklace. “This Montero Monet diamond necklace was gifted to me by my husband and it was just made for three people. Me and two other unknown people. It costs ten million dollars and…….”

I cut in. “Ahhhh, you mean this necklace? If you are talking about this, then the two other people that you are referring to must be my dogs. Coco and Lulu”

The smile on her face died as her eyelids fluttered.

I turned to look at Marcel before darting my eyes to Susan. “Coco and Lulu would be excited to know that they are twinning with you. Thanks for wearing the same necklace as my dogs” A mischievous smile graced my lips.

Taking her aback, I took a picture of her. “I would gladly make a portrait of this”

Marcel tapped me gently, resisting the urge to laugh. “Let us leave now”

At that very moment, my boys, Silas, Sage, and Silver, came out of the car while Silas who seemed to be the more outspoken one rubbed his hands on his stomach. “Mom, Dad, when are we leaving? I am famished already…..”

Before he could complete his words, Sage gave him a jab with his elbow while toning down his voice. “Look, it is that man from earlier?”

Darius’s eyes widened in horror, glancing back and forth between them and me. “They are your children?” He gasped.

I nodded while his lips parted in shock.

“The moon goddess blessed my husband and me with triplets. They have the best dad who loves them and will do anything for them”

Darius blinked his eyes continuously before staring at me incredulously. “Marcel is their father?”

Marcel responded, nodding. “Yes, do you have any problem with that plus it seems more like you all have seen each other already”

Silver who had the same green eyes as me faked a frown as he turned to look at Marcel. “Daddy, we didn't mean to eavesdrop on his conversation but Sage and Silas called my attention to the necklace on this woman’s neck. They said that it looked like the dog’s collar”

Susan’s eyes widened as she screamed at the top of her lungs. “What the actual fuck?”

The kids ran back to their cars, apologizing to Darius once again while Marcel and I entered ours, zooming off.

Darius’s P.O.V

“Those kids….” My words trailed when Susan cut in. “Dear moon goddess, I am over this already. Can you just stop mentioning those kids, instead you should be thinking about the situation that you are in”

She tossed her tablet aside. “Darius, everyone is talking about us right now. Blogs, tabloids, and on all social media platforms, everyone is mocking us for failing to acquire that land. You promised the foreign investors that you would get the land and have you forgotten the condition that was laid down, you have to get the land before they continue with the investment plan”

At that very moment, anger coursed through me because I knew the situation that I was in already and I knew how to handle it.

I was bothered about Marcel and Elodie's sudden appearance and most importantly about the kids that I felt drawn to.

I saw myself in them. How could Susan not see this?

I turned to look at Susan, resisting the urge to explode in anger. “Look at me, don’t you see any sort of resemblance with the triplets”

Susan clicked her tongue in her mouth. “There is no resemblance. You are just being paranoid for nothing instead, why in the world would you buy me the same pendant as the dogs?”

I rolled my eyes to the back, snarling at her. “How am I supposed to know that you are twinning with dogs?”

“Twinning? Must you sound that crude” Susan cried, removing the necklace on her neck, and in the blink of an eye, she threw it out the window.

My eyes widened. “Susan, do you know how much that is?” I screamed at her.

“Does that matter? What matters is that I am wearing the same thing as a dog and everyone is talking about us in the media. I boasted to my followers about how you were going to triumph at the auction and now everyone is mocking us”

“All of this is because of that Marcel and Elodie…..”

A glint of anger flashed through my eyes and slowly, something hit me.

All the times when I was always in a dilemma about how Marcel’s company kept thriving and how his rogue family was still intact despite his death then it dawned on me that it was because he was alive all along.

That was why I was never able to beat him no matter how much I tried to.

At that moment, a fear crept through my mind. The ruthless Marcel that I knew, his silence was deadly and if he had kept a low profile for years then it meant that he was planning something against me.

As far as I could remember, Elodie was also left penniless and now, she looked sophisticated, wealthy, and looked more like a different version of herself. If she was now married to Marcel, then it meant something and it meant that Elodie and Marcel got married to each other just to ruin me.

Should I be scared?
