Chapter 6. The Wedding Day

Arleena and Hugo's wedding is solemnly carried out.

One week later, after a name change—which luckily hasn't been posted yet—their wedding was held in the building where Arleena and Justin were to be married. All the guests who came only came from the closest people.

It was easy for Bernard, Hugo's father, to spread the word to Hugo's other siblings. But of course, not a few were surprised because Hugo had just returned from London.

"Jesus, Hugo! I didn't expect you to get married!" Eva, Hugo's cousin, shouted enthusiastically as she greeted the groom: Hugo.

Hugo just smiled. It was a bit doubtful to stand as a bride and groom, especially since the preparation was only one week.

"Right. Why did you suddenly get married?" said Azura, who was also Hugo's cousin. Then his gaze shifted to Arleena. "Moreover, you're married to Arleena. Gosh... you've been friends since childhood, and it turns out you're already married?"

Hugo and Arleena looked at each other. Actually it is not a doubtful thing for both of them to get married. But because the two sides of their family are sensitive like this.

As a result, Arleena laughed, but her laugh sounded a bit awkward. "I didn't expect either. If you know like this, why am I dating another man?"

Eva and Azura immediately burst into laughter. In contrast to Hugo who for some reason felt a tingling tickle. Hugo knew Arleena was only joking, but why was his heart beating so fast?

"Now you're regretting that you didn't accept me long ago," replied Hugo who tried to throw the tease back.

Arleena pouted without saying anything. While Azura immediately patted Hugo's shoulder.

"You haven't answered my question," Azura insisted. "How did you two suddenly get married? Why didn't either of you tell us?"

Hugo hissed as he contemplated a good reason to answer. He had expected that he would get a curious question like this.

"You know? Recently there are a lot of people who don't tell first, then suddenly get married," Hugo answered, trying to keep his gesture relaxed.

"So you deliberately wanted to surprise us?" Azura looked like she was irritated because Hugo teased her.

"Correct!" Hugo snapped his fingers. "Surprise. Taa-da! I'm married, and you two have no idea! Aren't I great?!"

Not only Azura and Eva looked at Hugo strangely, but also Arleena. Arleena didn't know what was wrong with Hugo's attitude. Even though he had already guessed that Hugo was acting, but did he have to look insane?

Arleena couldn't hold back her amused laughter while shaking her head. "You guys don't listen to Hugo. He just got a little crazy after he got home from work," he said, waving his hand.

Eva and Azura nodded their heads in unison. They briefly looked at Hugo through looks that felt strange. Then the two women left in front of the bride and groom.

"I feel so tired after doing ceremonies, dances and other events since earlier," Arleena said, exhaling roughly at the end of the sentence.

Arleena's words left Hugo at a loss as to how to answer. There were no chairs, since earlier they just stood throughout a series of wedding ceremonies to welcome guests.

Finally, noticing the exasperated look on Arleena's face, Hugo asked, "Would you like me to hold you?"

Arleena immediately glared at once spontaneously hitting Hugo's arm lightly. "Am I a child?"

Holding Arleena's former punch, Hugo chuckled. "I'm only offering. After all you are a child, your whining habit has not gone away."

"Wow," Arleena laughed in disbelief, "you're so out of time to make fun of me, Hugo."

"Then what are you going to do?" Hugo made a mockery of Arleena on purpose.

Arleena's fierce gaze even provoked Hugo's laughter. If it weren't for the fact that they were in the midst of a gathering of family and friends, Arleena would have kicked Hugo as hard as she could.

"You bride and groom, you need to smile," Hugo said, then reached both hands to Arleena's cheeks. He formed a smile from the two lines of Arleena's lips. "Look, you're married to me, don't show pain, honey."

Arleena widen her eyes wide. Again, she spontaneously hit Hugo's hands that were holding the two lines of the corner of his lips.

"Honey? Are you crazy—" Arleena almost screamed, but Hugo immediately smothered her.

Hugo watched the surroundings for a moment. Make sure no one sees them.

"Shut up, kid. You, don't understand theatrics?" answered Hugo in a slightly irritated tone. He was delighted to witness Arleena's innocence.

Arleena smacked Hugo's hand that was covering his mouth. Luckily it was released immediately.

"Why do you have to smother?!" Arleena hissed exasperatedly. "If it's a play, your way is also stupid!"

Instead of answering Arleena's annoyance, Hugo couldn't hold back his laughter. Arleena's scowling face was absolutely ridiculous. It had been a long time since Hugo had seen Arleena's sulking facial expression like now.

"Shhh! Don't be so angry, look," Hugo said as he averted his eyes, "what if they suspect we don't love each other?"

Hearing that, Arleena's lips pursed. Then Arleena came closer to Hugo's ear to whisper something.

"They'll also find it hard to believe we love each other. It doesn't make sense you and I didn't meet, didn't appear to be in—"

"Arleena, Hugo, it's photo session time! Come on, you guys have to take a picture with friends!" Suddenly a woman's voice called out, its owner Aldeena—Arleena's mother. Beside Aldeena is Quinn who looks so happy in a wheelchair.

The male photographer approached and prepared to place the camera on a special tripod. Coincidentally, Arleena and Hugo were a little surprised because the family—and a few cousins suddenly came running over.

"Ouch! You shifted a bit, don't step on my dress!" Hugo's cousin protests against Arleena's male cousin.

"All right, all right!"

"I want to be near the bride and groom!"

"Hey, the ones who have the right to be around the bride and groom are their parents!"

"Do I have to parent Arleena or Hugo first?"

Hugo immediately chuckled with a sullen expression on his face. "I can't stand having parents like you!"

"Eyy, I will also be very troublesome to have a child like you!"

Arleena immediately laughed when she witnessed the ridiculous behavior between Hugo and his cousin. Luckily, the families of the two of them used to get together during this time. So, there is no awkward interaction between cousin Arleena and cousin Hugo.

"WE STARTED PICKING, YES?!" The male photographer immediately exclaimed after confirming that the excited situation had slowly died down.

Arleena and Hugo just said yes, waiting for several cousins and their respective parents to get into position. With style raised both hands in the air, including Arleena who was holding a bouquet of flowers.

"ONE ..."

"TWO..."

The moment of shooting still lasts long enough. Arleena and Hugo felt a bit overwhelmed because they greeted the whole family enthusiastically.

"BOTH BRIDE, PLEASE CLOSER!" exclaimed the photographer man once again after taking several photos.

Arleena and Hugo looked at each other awkwardly. They are confused about what kind of tighter poses they want to pose?

"GROOM, LET'S EMBRACE THE BRIDE'S WAIST!"

Hugo gasped. He couldn't react for a moment, before finally reaching out. Hugo's glance asked Arleena for permission for them to follow the photographer's directions.

While both of them smiled awkwardly, Arleena let Hugo's arms wrap around his waist and then pulled his body closer. There is no distance between them.

One time the portrait is obtained.

Then, Arleena raised her head, looking at Hugo who was also looking at her through shady eyes. At that moment, both of them were immediately stunned by each other's gaze.

"READY!" Photographers give exclamations.

Arleena curved a smile, and so did Hugo.

"ONE!"

"TWO!"

"THREE!"

Right when the camera flash went off, Arleena was wide awake by Hugo's action—the man kissed her on the lips!
