Chapter Twenty Nine

It was a beautiful night, Matt had arranged a date for us in his mansion. I showed up in a lovely short dress for a perfect dinner. “You look amazing, Ashley”. “I’ve never seen anyone look so ready to slay the night”. With a gleaming smile I replied, thanks Matt. You’re not looking bad either, I giggled.

I shifted uncomfortably in my seat for what would seem to be the millionth time, my heart thundered in anticipation. I had waited for this special day but now I feel uneasy. To steady my giddy nerves, I raised the glass to my lips and took a mouthful of the sparkling water. Through the rim of the glass, I stole glances at Matt, who sat at the opposite side of the table.

He looked collected as usual; raising the fork to his lips so casually as though tonight was like every other night. But it wasn’t. At least not to me.

“You seem rather distracted,Ashley. Are you distracted?” he pushed his plate away , dabbing at his lips ever so gently.
