"I can't believe we are attending the Royal Hunting Ceremony!" Kayla squealed as she sat on Heyli's bed. Melodie was helping Heyli pack up for the trip and Heyli was going through a catalog. She was seated at her vanity table and looking quite worried. "When is Nina going to arrive?" Kayla shrugged. "She said she was going to come so let's hope she actually does." Heyli sighed. "I am more worried about her coming than this whole trip. I need to make things up to her." "Well, I am more concerned about that kiss you shared with Loki," Melodie sang. Kayla glared at her. "You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to, Heyli," Heyli shook her head and dropped the catalog on the vanity table before standing to her feet. "I need to go check. Nina must have arrived and she's probably confused on how to get to my room," Kayla and Melodie watched their worried friend leave. "She looks different. Not herself." Melodie said. "Must be the kiss. Nothing else.
"Have you noticed the strained relationship between your sister and Loki lately?" Loki asked as he stood in front of the car they were going to be leaving in. Athena was seated inside the car already and she poked her head out to see what he was talking about. Heyli was walking to the bus with Kayla and Melodie as she had decided to go with her friends instead of following the Royal entourage. They were talking quite freely and she searched for Loki. He was speaking with one of the warriors. "What did you notice?" Athena finally asked. "They've not been talking a lot. One time, I was in the living room with Heyli and Loki came in to ask if she was going to camp with them on the night before the trip. She outrightly ignored him, stood to her feet and walked out of the room. Loki didn't seem surprised. He looked like he has been asking her this same question several times and when I asked him, he said she was probably mad at him," "Mad at him about what?" Athena asked.
Heyli had been able to ignore the looks people were giving her but Nina seated here? That was going to be like walking into hell. She was staring directly at me and that made her uncomfortable as hell. Melodie, who had just come up behind her, saw Nina. "Oh, shit." She muttered. "Hey, Nina," Kayla greeted as she dropped into the space beside her. Nina was seated close to the window and she was going to be in the middle and it was a good thing. At least, Nina wouldn't be glaring daggers at her. "Hey, Kayla," Nina replied in the most unconcerned voice ever and now, Heyli was starting to believe she was causing a rift between the three friends. Come to look at it. Things used to run smoothly between them all before Heyli came into the book and it was actually making her feel guilty right now. "Hey, Nina," Heyli nodded in acknowledgment but Nina turned her face away like she didn't see Heyli. Heyli shrugged and sat before Kayla who nudged her not to feel bad about it.
Athena was asleep through out the journey. Alex had no idea why but he let her sleep on his lap as he watched the car whizz past landscapes. His mind went back to last year's hunting ceremony and how he had been unjustly awarded the prize of the third place when he should have come first just because some fraudulent people had carried out fraudulent activities. He knew it wasn't something he should be bothered about but it was Lawrence. Lawrence was his pure enemy and had used the fact that he was able to rig the votes in his favor to mock Alex. Alex had promised himself this year, he wasn't going to make that possible and he was going to make sure that Lawrence was exposed and banished from the Royal Hunting Ceremony forever. He had no idea how Lawrence was able to pull that off. It surprised him that he was able to somehow bribe the officials and make them call the wrong winners. Ciara and Daniel were also shocked and wanted to dispute the result but Alexander told th
Heyli had never felt so uncomfortable her whole life. She sat by the window and tried as much as she could to distract herself by looking out of the window but she couldn't. Nina's presence made her really uncomfortable and no matter how hard Melodie tried to make her forget that Nina was actually seated by them, Heyli still felt her presence heavily. "How long does this journey take?" Melodie shrugged. "I have no idea. This is my first time on this trip," "About eight hours," Kayla replied. She had just woken up from her short nap. "We've been on the road for three hours. We have five hours left," "Are you hungry?" Melodie asked Heyli who nodded. "I didn't have anything to eat for breakfast this morning because I was too excited for this journey. I would have eaten something if I knew," "At least we came with enough food to last us and we're also going to stop at one of the roadside restaurants to get snacks or something," Kayla said and pulled out the large duff
The bus behind the car Athena and Alexander sat in screeched to a halt and they both turned to see that people were talking in loud voices. "What the hell is happening?" Athena asked as she squinted. Alexander asked the driver to halt and as soon as he did, the doors were unlocked and they stepped out. They stood, watching to see what was about to happen. People were pushing out of the bus and yelling at the top of their voice for the others to get out and when they saw Melodie and Kayla holding Heyli on both arms, she went into a full blown panic. "She's about to shift, Athena. She's about to shift!" Alex yelled and immediately ran towards the bus. He knew how she looked when she was about to shift and he snatched her from the girls' hold. "Y'all, go back to your buses. You're safe!" But no one listened to him. They were filled with so much curiosity as they wanted to see how things were going to turn out. Heyli's temperature was so high that when Athena touched her
"I just got an info," The commander said as he moved to the front of the large van. Loki was standing beside Clara, one of his mates from way back. "The bus conveying the junior and senior teams stopped because one of the junior team members was about to shift to a Kanime," Loki immediately moved forward. He knew it was Heyli. But how? He hadn't expected her to shift at this time. This was why he had told Athena that actually bringing her here would cause so many problems. "But that was a different case. The young lady is experiencing a very high fever and she keeps calling the name of her guardian," Everyone turned to look at Loki and he knew he had messed up. "Loki, why aren't you with her?" The commander asked as he drew closer to him. "You know how she gets in situations like these, yeah?" Loki nodded. "I do." "Then why aren't you with her? Why did you come here with us and risk the lives of people in that bus?" "Heyli isn't going to kill anyone. She is
Loki walked around and got into the car. Kayla left the car to give him enough space. Alex went to the bus and ordered everyone to continue their journey but Melodie and Kayla decided to stay back with Heyli. "That's not possible, girls. And you know that." Kayla was stubborn about it. She stood her ground. "I need to be with my friend." "We need to be," Melodie added as she came to stand beside Kayla. "We can't leave her here. We must go with her." "There's no space in the car for you both. I would have reconsidered if there was," Melodie craned her neck to see the cars before them. She frowned and looked at him. "But there are two cars. You and the King can fit into one. We'd squeeze into the other car," Before Alex could give them a reply, Athena stepped forward. "No. You both are going into the bus. Heyli is going to be fine and safe, okay? You can be with her as soon as we arrive but for now, she needs all the space she can get." Their hopeful expressio
