Geneva had gotten home quite a long time ago but she found it hard to sleep. All she could think about was Trevor and those words he had said. Even if he was speaking nothing but the truth, she couldn't bring herself to forget the humiliation she had gone through all because she was mated to some Alpha King from a pack she didn't belong to. Trevor had locked her up, made everyone think she was crazy and severed their connection. It had been really painful and on some nights when she couldn't sleep, she lay awake watching the night skies or in the woods shape shifting and howling till her voice got coarse. Her own people had made her seem like an outcast just because she got rejected and it had taken months for her to get used to the stares and gossips that were never ending. Tonight, she had also been embarrassed and Alex, the good looking Alpha in his good graces had followed her, listened to her. No one had ever done that for her. Nobody tried to listen to her.
CHAPTER 95 "Leave you?" Alex asked and burst into laughter. Athena was being ridiculous right now and it was absolutely funny. "Athena, I see that you have come here to make me laugh or make a joke out of me." "What relationship do you have with that woman?" Athena queried. It was in her eyes that she was highly jealous. She tried hard to conceal it but Alex could see it. "A relationship that's none of your business," Alex said and spooned the last food into his mouth before turning to leave. "Wait!" Athena called. Alex was laughing as she turned. "I miss you, Alex. Every waking moment of the day, I regret why I asked you to leave. Every time I wish I could see you and take back everything I said," she blurted out. Alex still had a smile on his face and as he moved towards her, he watched her fiddle with her dress. "So why did you ask me to leave?" Athena cleared her throat and said nothing. "You talking? I have to go now." "I just told you I mis
Alex returned to his table looking angry. His face was drawn and his lips were thinned as he pulled out his chair to take a seat. By now, people were either dancing, eating or preparing to leave. Daniel and Ciara were eating and conversing when they saw Alex. They noticed his demeanor and the couple exchanged looks, knowing that something bad had gone down. Ciara would have asked him but he was in a really bad mood and Alex in a really bad mood meant he would be rude. Alex leaned back on his chair and looked around. He was seething. Really angry at Athena but there was nothing he could do. His wolf whined in so much pain and he began to squirm in his seat. Daniel noticed his discomfort and tapped him. "What's up?" Alex shook his head. "Nothing. I'm good." Daniel didn't believe him but he said nothing after that. Instead, he turned to his wife and whispered into her ears. "Talk to Athena, please. We all know that she's also smitten by him. I don't know why
Alex was just about leaving the party when a lady cornered him. She was smiling and she flicked her hair to the side. Alex noticed that the other ladies at the table were looking at him. It seemed like it was planned but he didn't mind entertaining one or two women before leaving. "I saw you coming into the hall and I was following after you but you got occupied." "Great," Alex whispered and slipped his hands into his pocket. "I am about to leave anyway." The lady took it as a cue to step in. She pushed into his broad chest and bit her lower lip. Her dark brown eyes swirled with desire as she stared at him. He watched her hair bounce as her bronze curls shimmered under the lights. "We could leave together. Maybe take a walk or something?" Alex was just thinking of how women of this generation had the audacity to walk up to a man publicly without even care. Before he could open his mouth to reply to her, Athena's firm voice spoke from behind him. "I'm wit
In the thick of the darkness, a snarl was heard. A villager was just returning home from her stall after a long day at work and it had been unfortunate that she chose this day to clean up her shop just as everyone was preparing to go home. She had stayed back and she had cleaned everything up and even if she knew that it was safer to move with everyone in the evening, she had chosen to be alone. She was an unsuspecting woman. She hummed a classic tune of old as she hiked her jute bag higher. She walked through the path everyone used through the woods and even under the full moon, the paths were foggy and she heard the chirping of crickets as she went. She was not afraid. She was used to this sound already. She remembered that every evening, when everyone trudged tiredly through the forest, they all heard this sound but everyone ignored it. It was the sound of the nocturnes. But tonight, she was alone and she couldn't ignore it for so long. So she began walking
"Where's Maggie?" A young girl came out of a wooden house. She was dressed in a tattered mauve dress. She had a dark shawl wrapped around her neck and her head hung low as she stood in front of the old man, her father. He was asking for her mother. "I have no idea, papa," The young girl said in a meek voice. "She asked me to go home with the others. I think she wanted to clear the stall. It's dirty." Whack! The young girl fell to the ground as she hissed in pain. Her father had slapped her cheek. Her cheek that had received slaps everyday of her life. But now, she wasn't receiving that for anything she did. Her mother had stayed back instead of coming with everyone and somehow, he had found a way to pin the blame on her. When she looked up at him, he was glaring down at her. "Who is going to make me food tonight?" "I will." The young girl whispered. Her father shook his head and laughed. "What do you know how to do? You can barely look after yourself
Ciara and Daniel were talking when they both spotted Alex walking hand in hand with Athena. They weren't the only ones looking. Some people didn't dwell on it because they felt like it was just a random gentlemanly gesture. Ciara nudged Daniel. "Look what I told you? Athena's someone who isn't in tune with her emotions but she sure feels everything. That's why I told her that back when we were at the terrazzo. I knew she was going to go after him." Daniel was still watching them. He nodded. "I wonder what she told him to make him come back. I saw it in Alex's eyes. He was damn ready to leave and never return." "He can't. He wouldn't. Alex is madly in love with her. It's not just his wolf. It's him too." Daniel sighed. "I wished I was loved like that." Daniel said and sighed. "Ow!" Ciara was glaring at him. She had whacked his arm. "Stupid. What are you saying?" "Yes. I was the one who foolishly loved you and embarrassed myself because you didn't see m
As they walked to the dance floor, Alex watched Athena. She was eerily quiet and he guessed she was just really shy due to the looks she was getting from the people. And also, Alex noticed that as they passed by people, they bowed. It was a sight. He remembered that a few weeks ago, no one regarded him due to his status as a footman but now that everyone knew him to be King, it all changed. Before they got to the dance floor, a man cornered them. Athena frowned but Alex wanted to bear what he had to say. He bowed to Athena and then to Alex. "Congratulations, my King. May your reign on the Antarti throne be long." "Thank you." Athena said. The man turned to Alex. "It's surprising to know that after all these while, you were King. I knew it." Alex was going to ask this man if this was the reason why he stopped him but he refrained from doing so. All he needed was a little patience. "I saw you at the inn yesterday and I was going to walk up to you but you
