Chapter 12

Sarah didn’t come from her room that day, not for lunch, not for dinner. Even though he worried, Luke didn’t go to see her. Wasn’t she at least hungry? Or maybe she didn’t want to come down because she didn’t want to see him… that thought caused a strange ping in his heart, the one he didn’t like at all.

But after he checked on her earlier that afternoon and barely found the strength to leave the room, Luke didn’t go into her room again. He used the time to work in his home office and settle as many things as he could from there. It wasn’t every day he was selling all his business, but it also wasn’t the first time. Every 10 years or so, he would sell the business he developed in a city he was living in at the time and move. Maybe he could’ve stayed here a year or two more, but Sarah showed up…
