Chapter 22: To Fight For You

With annoyance in his eyes, he faced me. "About what, Lily? I caught you looking at me the whole time. "What do you want?" I glanced at him, taking a big breath despite the pain in my chest. "Blake, do you remember how we spent all of our free time at your house instead of doing homework, hanging out in the tree house, and having a good old chit-chat?" My heart longs for those days. He only looked at me with blank eyes. "That tree house? It hasn't been there since that storm years ago tore it down."

As the truth dawned on me, my eyes flooded with tears. I felt despondent when I realized how much time had passed since then. "I guess I just miss how easy things were and how close we were. I thought we might find some of that again. We were once close. You are my best friend. We'd spend hours talking, laughing, and doing all that crazy stuff."
