I’d known Rune was employed at the fashion magazine publication that Micah’s family owned, and I knew it was only a matter of time until we came face to face once more. I’d been looking forward to running into her in passing, but our meeting now wasn’t exactly what I’d imagined.

It’d taken me a long minute to realize that she’d been crying, my excitement getting the better of me, but I didn’t push her to tell me what’d happened.

Instead, I kept talking, trying to make her feel comfortable as I drove her to her destination, but I had every intention of seeking Micah out when I returned to the office, feeling positive that he’d had something to do with her downtrodden state.

I wasn’t pleased with the idea of leaving her at the neglected rec center she’d requested I take her to, but I got the sense of just how important the place was to her, so I didn’t object as she’d jumped out of the car, not that I was sure I would be able to stop her with her mind made up.
