Rash Decisions

I hadn’t stopped to think about what my rash decision would cost me, the sensations pouring through me too intense to concentrate on the consequences in the moment.

Mercifully, I didn’t have anything personal at my desk with how little time I spent in the office, and I marched straight for the elevator without a backward glance. I stayed focused on putting one foot in front of the other, knowing I would probably break down if I paused for even a second.

In the back of my mind, I took note of Sara seated at the reception desk as I passed by on my way out. She’d started to thank me for the cookies, but then she’d seen the fire in my eyes no doubt, immediately leaping to her feet in order to intercept me on the way to the elevator.

I jammed the button down repeatedly, my vexation only intensifying by the second, and I knew my anger was the only thing keeping the tears at bay.
