I had a hard time writing this chapter because I constantly went back and forth on whether I should show that Riley is still struggling. It’s highly unlikely for people to forget and move on. If you liked this chapter, please #Vote. Thank you for reading.
46. Hard Drink>After we get down from our ride, the helicopter flies away, leaving powerful gusts of wind behind. I glance back to see Jessica, but it’s Riley who catches my attention.Riley looks stunning in her flowy sundress. The vibrant patterns with shades of red and white, contrast with the green background of the island. She has tied strings around her waist, highlighting her tiny figure. I want to wrap my arm around and pull her close. Her gaze meets mine, and her cheeks flush into a delightful color of pink. She clumsily tries to hold Jessica in one arm while trying to hold down her dress with another.I walk towards them, remembering how she almost fell down on Halloween evening. I have plans for this trip and I can’t spend my time looking after two whiney babies.“Jessie, please come to me or Riley will sprain her ankle again.”“I got tired that day! I was fine otherwise,” she protests as Jessie happily hops from her lap into mine.I look at her, amused. H
47. My Daughter’s babysitter. > Riley is perched on the kitchen counter, swinging her legs back and forth. There is a playful glint in her eyes. She has been asking me questions and is euphoric that I am answering her. Apparently she got deeply offended that on Halloween I talked to Natalie and Ira while ignoring her. Although I don’t see the point of this so-called interview. She won’t remember most of the conversation we are having. “Do you like reading?” She asks, taking another gulp. Her cheeks are flushed from the alcohol. “Yes.” “What do you read?" “Mostly science fiction. Sometimes non fiction too." "When do you find time?" "Before sleep. If I am not too tired...” “How long is your TBR list?” “TBR list?” She rolls her eyes. “To Be Read list?” I laugh. “What’s up with the fucking abbreviations in your generation…” “Abbreviations save time, Old Man! And don’t change the topic,” she rebukes me, taking one more sip, only to realize her glass is empty
48. Detained>I should be happy that I got a free tour without spending a penny. It’s a beautiful place. Jonas told me some of the history. Interestingly, during World War II, the villa was used as a hiding place for some wealthy Japanese families who were trying to save themselves from the backlash of Americans. He told me his grandfather bought it when he came to USA. Originally, they lived here before moving to a bigger city where he founded Josef constructions. The same company for which I did that laborious and soul-sucking data entry work from dust eating files.I was stunned by how marvelous everything was. Furniture and art pieces made of polished wood and glass. Each room has a balcony overlooking the lake beach. This place has a pool and hot tub too. As if the lake in front wasn’t enough. Once we settled into our rooms, I explored the Villa and property around it with Jessica. There is a cemetery nearby. I sat near a tombstone with Jessie for a while. I would
49. Consent>My cheeks turn pink as some interesting images flash across my head. Let’s ignore that I indeed put words in his mouth. “You can’t do that.” My voice falters in embarrassment as I try to answer him.“If you comply. I won’t,” he says as he casually removes his sweat soaked t-shirt. What? Why is he…Perplexed, I retreat a step while he takes one towards me.“Do you like being tied, Riley?” He asks as his amused blue eyes linger at me. I shake my head in denial as my gaze swims across his chest. His toned muscles glistening with sweat can make any woman blush. Desire makes its way to my core as I imagine what it would feel like to be held down by his strong arms. There is so much he is hiding underneath his clothes. He chuckles and passes me, making his way inside. My gaze follows him, taking in the sight of his broad shoulders and well-defined back.“You are so easy to tease.” He turns and says before entering the bath, “Anyway.. Make yourself comfortable.
A/N: Please make sure you are reading this story at GoodNovel. :) Condoms > How does that sound? Just a simple question goosebumps rise across my skin. The room is still dark. But a gentle glow of light falling on his face tells me the sun will soon rise. I want to glance at the clock, but his face is too pretty to look away. I am dying to feel him against me. Naked. Skin to skin. “Sounds awesome…But… There is one problem." He raises his brow in question. "I need to pee,” I add, my voice barely audible in embarrassment. He regards me with a twinkle of amusement in his eyes, and I scowl. “What? We all do that first thing in the morning. Right? “ He chuckles under his breath and I sit. “I know I am ruining the moment, but I don’t think we can do anything without me wetting myself. And that must not happen.” I let out a nervous laugh. He doesn't say anything and nods. Taking a cue, I try to get up. I yelp in surprise when he yanks me onto his lap. His hard
51. Volleyball>I scramble for my clothes as a wave of panic washes over me. How could I be so reckless? What if something happens? But it wasn’t my responsibility alone. Right?“You can stay here for sometime if you want,” he says, putting on his shirt. In other words…. It would be better if we donot go out together... Of course, no one should see us. I gaze upon him. He is distracted by Jessie’s voice getting louder in his phone app… Completely oblivious to the fact that I am freaking the fuxk out.Breathe Riley. It’s no big deal. I have to go to the pharmacy. I have never had these pills before… So I don’t know how it works.Wait. I had them once. Bile rises my throat, and I cover my mouth, trying to focus. DON’T THINK ABOUT THAT.“What’s wrong?” Mikolaj asks as he takes a step closer to me.I look up and give him a weak smile. “No biggie. Just go. Jessie is getting impatient,” I tell him. He nods and pulls me into a searing kiss, making me forget all my worries.“T
52. Shopping>I sit in Patterson’s car, fiddling with the hem of my dress. There is an awkward silence. “Where should I drop you?”Err about that. I can’t tell him about the pharmacy. So I reply, “I want to do some dress shopping… But I don’t know where to go.”“What’s the occasion?”“Yes, I need a party gown for the evening.”“Oh Obviously. It’s a casino. So shop accordingly.”Oh. I didn’t know that. “Are you coming?”He shakes his head. “I am busy. Camilla will go.”I cross my arms and look out at houses passing by. Of course Camilla will go. She would be Mikolaj’s date. What is she even doing here? I tap my feet, letting myself fume in my seat, wondering if Mikolaj was really indifferent or I am, as usual, overthinking?“So… Are you going to office too?” Thankfully, Patteson asks and I am momentarily distracted.I shake my head. “No. Although Mikolaj gave me some assignments at his place.” But I will ask him if I can come to office a few times a week.Patterson nods.
53. Casino>I walk into the Villa, carrying my shopping bags, and find Mikolaj and Camilla huddled together over a laptop. As I pass them, I can’t help but steal a glance at Mikolaj. His broad shoulders hunched over the laptop, dark hair falls over his forehead. He looks so tempting, with his intense focus on screen.“Hey, Riley!” Camilla chirps, breaking my reverie. “Did you have a wonderful time shopping?”I nod. Camilla is always nicer to me. Why don’t I like her? Only because of a man? Does she know? No, of course she doesn’t. We only slept one time. No one knows.“It was good. I met some interesting people.” Reported them.“I would love to see the dress you bought,” she says, glancing at the shopping bags.“I bought two, actually. I wasn’t sure what to wear,” I tell her sheepishly.“There are never too many dresses,” she grins as she picks up her drink from the counter.Mikolaj turns his attention to me. His piercing blue eyes lock onto mine. I expect him to say so
